Does anybody run a seperate press just for decapping primers? I am not interested in going with a progressive yet as Im doing rifle. Anybody get a real cheapo press to use just for primer removal station? Thoughts on using one press for decapping,sizing and another press for bullet stuffing? Any negatives to this?
 
whats the cheapest, reliable press for just decapping? I have a set of Forster dies that would need to fit in it. Is there anything that that is a bargain for this sort of thing?
 
i use the rcbs rock chucker to decap and to resize..then next to it i will use a elcheepo rcbs partner press to set bullets...
if you ever get to the GTA..pm me...i,ll lend you my presses for a few weeks to try them out:D
 
I resize/decap pistol brass on my SS press, just because I have one. I then wet tumble before running it all through my progressive for completion. Keeps crap and lube away from my progressive setup and I get "cleaned in the tumbler" primer pockets to boot.

Not a necessary way to do things but works very well and keeps it clean.

"Just" to decap, wouldn't that little $40.00 "C" press Lee sells do the trick?

I bought the cheapest Lee Press for under $40 brand new for a dedicated decaping station. No issues at all. Thousands of rounds have gone through it and I don't see any signs that it will break down on me...

Any good place to buy the Lee decaper press? Sinclairs doesnt seem to sell Lee. FD for your Partner press, how has it been holding up? I see the Partner press is the cheapest that RCBS sells as well.

Lastly dumb question. I have Forster 7/8s die set. Will they fit all these cheapo presses or do I need a bushing kit or similar?
 
I have an extra press I use for decapping and /or several other steps. A second press is nice to have because you can do small jobs without upsetting the assembly line of larger loading projects.
 
Not really much point in decapping as a separate step. It'll save you a lot of fuss and bother to just use the resizing die.
 
A decapper I'd useful for those interested in clean primer pockets. He's decapping, dumping into the tumbler, and with ss media, he'll get everything really clean.

Thats only a matter of opinion and not so true for others. I prefer to resize, clean the lube in the tumbler, and then decap, clean pockets, and then finally re-prime. I may or may not do all these steps at once, but I do not put away half clean or lubed brass.
 
I use an old single stage press for decapping, RCBS hand primer, and a Lee 3 Hole Turret Press, with extra turrets for different calibre dies.
 
decaping & then tumbling works for me, i've got a 550 , the resizing stage cleans any media out. make sure to get a ss that catches every primer [lee classic] & you'll be a happy camper

I believe w w w.higginsonpowders.com can get you the press and they are Canadian. I can't answer the question about the Forster 7/8s die set but my guess would be that the dies would fit.

I reload almost everything on my Dillon 550s BUT I deprime and size on a seperate press. It allows me to handle the brass more giving better quality control. I also get beeter 'feeling' for resizing on a single stage press.
