SVT-40 Ammo Question

I've got some 203grain 7.62x54r. Am I right to assume that the pressure behind this round could damage my SVT-40? Would I be better off tracking down something more in the range of 180 grain?

It's not going to kill the rifle, but don't necessarily make a habit of it.

Turn down your gas setting and you will not have problems. The proper ammo for the SVT are 147-150 grs but firing heavier bullets from time to time wont hurt. Firing thousands of heavy bullets could be hard on the action but not for fews.
