CCI Stinger problem

I recently bought a brick of cci stinger hyper-v rounds. and im going to admit this ammo spooks me a fair bit, i've run 1000's of rounds through my mossy 702, and i've never had it run away on me once. i loaded the first mag in and it seem to run just a bit hot but by the time i loaded the second mag i fired off the first round it went full auto and spit all 10 rds downrange before i knew what had happened. immediately i suspected a failure in the seer or trigger assy. took it apart and found nothing, so i tried my remington viper ammo and nothing, went through 6 boxes without so much double feed, hard extraction or misfire. so im only left to suspect the ammo. has anyone else had any problem like this with cci stinger ammo?

i have no idea what the issue might be as I am not familiar with your rifle. I do know that the Stinger case is slightly longer than your standard .22 LR case, could have something to do with it.

it most likely a result of much highervelocity at wich bolt is kicked back. There are a few things that I used to do to fix that. The easiest one was cutting back rubber bumper on my 597, the thing bolt slam against when cycled. Not sure if there is something like that on mossbergs. The other thing is ballasting the bolt to reduce acceleration, the easiest way to ballast is proly some aftermarket heavier bolt handle. And the last thing to try is stiffening sear spring so it needs less time to engage.

Having your gun run away on you is pretty scary, even if it's something small like a .22. My 597 used to do that every now and then.

Can I ask where you purchased the CCI Stinger ammo?

there is not heavy barrel on you 702 is there ? heavy barrels usually have some type of match/target type chamber cut in them , with the stinger case being a longer length than a regular 22LR they will not fit in the chamber witch could result in a slam fire ....rat,tat,tat

Good point, with the bolt open, put a round in the chamber with your fingers, to see if it goes all the way in before hitting resistance.

Probably your best bet is to just not use them in that gun, but if you must, be sure the problem is fixed first.

Really? The stuff is everywhere in Edmonton. The price has even been going down somewhat.

Really? The stuff is everywhere in Edmonton. The price has even been going down somewhat.

Magnum PE, I just picked up a bunch of CCI ammo from Gagnons in Oshawa. They had their no tax sale on last weekend. They carry all things CCI.

Thats seems a bit scary. Like when your throttle gets stuck. Funny though cause my junky old 22 is reliable only when i shoot stingers or other high powered rounds out of it. Anything else and it might as well be a bolt action.
