WSM-which one?

Winchester hit the .270 WSM on the head marketing-wise. Everyone spooges their pants thinking its soooo much faster than the ONLY other .270 on the market...the .270 WCF.

But oh wait...there always has been a .270 magnum out there....

I shoot my buddies 7mm WSM often and I absolutely love it. I'd go 7mm WSM and not look back.

Bought a used Parker-Hale m81 that was converted from .308 to .325 wsm. So while you're busy making assumptions, I'm still remembering how I wasted money. That would be since the outfitter I deal with in the Yukon doesn't want me to bring smaller arms than a .338 for moose and grizzly. Also going to Africa, I only want to bring calibers where I know I won't have too much trouble finding ammunition if the airline ever loses mine.

At least the gun looks good though.

If an outfitter tells you that a 325WSM won't kill a grizzly or moose just as well as a 338, then you need to start questioning whether he actually knows anything about hunting rifles, cartridges, and bullets.

X1000 on the brainfart of the 325wsm. what gap did this fill? it made a gap IN ONES WALLET BAHAA

derrrrr.... what gap? it's the only one that offered anything new. no one made a factory 8mm mag.... but a .300? .270? 7mm? all covered by current chamberings. boring.

The .270 WSM is the only one that improved with more than 3 digits in both velocity and energy. Also, reloading is a big bonus in my experience; the necks of the cases don't stretch nearly as much as they seemed to in the standard long action .270. As far as the rest go, I still haven't felt the need to replace my .300 wm or 7mm rem. with a short mag.

I did however replace my .270 win with the .270 wsm because when I handload in 180 grain bullets, they chamber a lot better in the short mag, than they did in my standard long action Rem. 700. That fact right there makes it more versatile for me, than my 7mm mag. ever was.

To each their own, though.
Interesting...
Bullet manufacture?
B.C.?
Vel. ?
Twist?
COAL?
Your load data?
And what rifle are you using?

I don't know any load data, but Woodleigh makes the 180gr bullets.

BC = 0.513
SD = 0.334

COAL would probably be close to 3.4" and I'm guessing velocity around 2300fps.

I am a firm believer that the original short magnum is still the best bet for deer, moose,elk and bear and it's accuracy remain one of the best of all the superb 308... Cheers. JP.

For one all around rifle, for versatility it would have to be the .300 WSM. Personaly, in the short mag category, I have a 7mm SAUM and a .300 WSM and like them both.

.300 WSM / .270 WSM is the most popular. All the rest of them are going to end up dead.

Another note to make is that the .338 RCM is a pretty sweet round.

300WSM is top of the WSM heap.

I agree with those that defended the 325, it is a fantastic round, can find ammo anywhere, excellent ballistics with 200 or 220 grain..... I think most people just haven't given it much of a chance due to reading Internet hype.

Yes, now we're talking. I'm torn between this and a .416 WSM. Truthfully though a .350WSM is as close to the perfect one gun for everything as you can get, I would even argue more so than the .375's. Short (and a bit) action, heavy but the option of light and flat bullets too, more efficient lighter package. The .350 Rem Mag had it nailed years ago but the belt took up valuable space which can be used for powder, the .350WSM sorts this out and adds a touch more spark.

I think the 7WSM makes more sense, many more bullets to select from, but the .270WSM seems to have a leg up in popularity. I'm toying with the idea of a Mod70 in .270WSM and a 20" switch barrel in .416WSM with a banded front sight. That one gun should do for just about everything that breathes and bleeds. Big question is do I go sensible Extreme weather stainless and synthetic, or Super Grade traditional blued and wood? Really torn.
