So I am new to hunting but I got really lucky and will be hunting on my friends property in Southern Ontario. I went to scope the place out and I think its a GREAT location for my first place. The property is covered around 4 soy bean fields with some thick tree/brush separating each plot plus she has 2 ponds that the deer drink from as well as a small natural stream. There are many does I have seen and they are all good fair size but do I need to feed them to get them to come around closer? I will be hunting out of a tree stand and ground blind right through where they cut through to get to the next soy bean field. Someone said to put out mineral licks, another said to put out a feeder with corn. I ask this because they seem to be coming around all the time and this area has never been hunted before. I just want to have a good first season so I am looking for ideas or suggestions I should do.

keep scoping the herd until you see your chosen one. Then develop a pattern for him that will result in success for you come fall.
rifle or bow?

Your hard on is getting in the way, wait till late summer you are wasting valuable Turkey Hunting time. They may not all be there 6 months from now!!

I say feed them in the fall come hunting time, something native to the area that they like, why not try bring em closer to your stand? If it is legal in your area of course.

When you get them close you can study and watch them very carefully, see the characteristics of them, their movements, stuff like that.Learn how they move and travel and interact with each other.

Game cam is nice also especially for a new hunter.

Spend time in your stand before season, see if you are in the right spot. Nothing beats experience and you will learn much just by watching them.

Maybe do some youtubeing about calling and rattling also.

This of course is just my opinion.

did i mention there is an apple tree beside the tree i plan to put the stand in? Bonus :)

I suggest fertilizing the apple tree(s).

Take a steel bar and make a bunch of 6" deep holes around the drip-line of the tree. Add 1/2 cup of 8-32-16 to each hole.

Trim some shooting lanes now, if needed.

Are you sure the fields are going to be planted with soybeans again?

Here are some pics from my iphone of the site

Best to check the laws, I know here, it is 500m from occupied dwellings no matter what you hunt with.

Very likely different from your laws, but does look like a dandy spot.

Probably don't need to feed em either;)Just be patient in a good location.

her house is on the property, I'm using crossbow..no guns, I think our season is from Oct 26th-December 31st.

500M?

I dont think theirs anywhere in southern ON thats more then 500m away from any buildings.

Close, but not quite. Its 500m UNLESS you have permission from the owner. If you have permission you can shoot from just outside the doorway. Hell we can probably even shoot from inside through an open door (unsure on that last bit - not recommended at any rate)
