How do you store your bear rugs and tanned skins with fur still on to keep the moths etc from wrecking them? Moth balls in plastic bags? pestide spray?

Staple them on the wall, depending on how big they are.

This bear is 7'3" squared and I really don't have a wall to hang it, so it is draped over the spare bed.

That's what he looked like right after I shot him (2004).

This cinamon bear is 6'4" and is perfect on the wall.

thanks guys!

The walls are a no go, too many heads up there. I bought a couple of big rubber boxes at Walmarts and moth balls, should do the trick. Had a tanned bear skin with the nice rugs, tanning done by less than ace outfit, moths got to it:eek: and gave me a scare about my nice rugs. They are o.k.:D

I wouldn't be sticking moth balls in with furs that I wanted to keep. They will stink to high heaven for many years to come. Trust me on this one! Plus, moth balls are a known carcinogen.

Just buy the over sized Ziploc bags and seal them up, and then put in the plastic container. The moths wont be able to get at them.

Just put a small bag of cedar shavings with them, that's why closets were cedar lined.

My wife's parents cabin/home was built almost entirely out of cedar, they had a serious moth problem. What they found out was the following:

Cedar Wood

Another remedy used for the same purpose is cedar wood balls. Cedar oils, at concentrations present in cedar chests, closets and scented wood blocks, have almost no value as moth or beetle repellents. The value of a cedar chest is that the chest is tightly closed, thus preventing entry of moths or beetles.

Hi:
I had to store all of my mounts and rugs, bear included for 16 years after we sold our large home and I lost my 1st mancave.
All I did was put them in a over sized sealed cardboard box in a spare heated bedroom at moms. Once a year I would take them out on a windy summer day to let the air blow through them for a while.
I lost one hawk from being crushed but the rest is a good as the day I got it mounted. No plastic on anything.I never seen any moths??Maybe I was lucky
