Here's a question, if you have a factory-matched upper and lower, but most of the parts have been changed to better stuff like ambi controls, shorter barrel, improved trigger, FF rail added, etc. do you have a Franken-AR, or an upgraded "brand X"?

Either or, but I'd tend to lean towards an upgraded "brand x". A Franken-AR (just my opinion) is a mis-matched upper and lower, in addition to being completely overhauled (barrel, internals, etc.) For example, I have a SOCOM-Dlask that has been so extensively modified that it bears no resemblance to anything recognizable (definitely Franken-AR).

1 Bushmaster 9mm lower w/Colt upper
1 Dlask
2 ATRS(one matching upper, the other ASA side charger)
formerly 1 KAC,2 Armalite,2 Colt
I too have a problem with spending money but will likely only be building on ATRS lowers from now on...feeding the addiction

What sets the ATRS lowers apart from everyone else?

100% Colt

.. because I too drink the coolaid.

I have an LMT

I don't understand the grouping, an explanation of the OP's thoughts would be nice.

The fit and finish is outstanding, and a lot of built in features like enhanced trigger gaurd, slightly flared mag well, custom fire control markings, some captive spring/detents,grip on front of magwell and if you prefer to standard lowers they are ever so slightly "beefier". They are pricey but well worth it IMHO...And they are great to deal with

I've actually already ordered one of the gen3 lowers and I'm waiting for it to show up in the mail... So far Rick has been excellent to deal with a real pleasure!

I currently only have a KAC SR15 and Sabre Defense M4forgery. Used to own a Colt LE carbine, Noveske CQB, Noveske 14.5", two ATRS AR 15s, two RRA 9mm ar15, one tactical innovations AR15.

For future the only thing I want is a KAC 11.5" midlength URX upper or complete rifle. (I drink the Costa koolaid), well maybe another Noveske 18" or 20" for some longer range work.

You need to accessorize big time brother.....................................:ar15:

Get some KAC going on in there and some good optics with flash light and slings. PM Blaxsun,Questar and OST and bring those babies to the 21st century or at least a few of them..lol.

Couple LMTs, KAC.

Colts are way overpriced, IMHO. I'd own some if we could get anywhere close to US pricing, though.

YEAH NORINCO! But mine is only relegated to range use. None of that crazy tactical operator-overseas gun-fighting for me, so I don't need a fancy setup...
Joking. I would love a higher end AR setup, preferably one I build for my 'needs' but seeing as I am a broke-ass for the time being, learning on a more affordable setup isn't a negative thing. The controls are all the same, the trigger may be grittier but it still does the same thing as all of its higher end brethren. 3000 and still going with on failures what so ever.
My only beef is loose-ness of the bolt catch without a magazine inserted and the cost of ammo.
My .02
