Sorry, I did not mean to offend. That said, if the focus is CQB... I will stick with my statement ("for CQB a chest rig is completely unnecessary", but that does not preclude its use).

Up to you, I prefer to have it with me. This makes even more sense when doing SR. Lean and mean to me means everything you need is on your person. Not having to run some place to get it. Perhaps this is a hold over from my old military days, I don't know. It's the way I like it.

That said, it is whatever works for you...
