US Army May Field More Powerful Sniper Rifle

come on man...what kinda question is that? The answer is "of course"! Require (maybe not), want (YES!)

Re-inventing the wheel. The 300 win mag is mentioned as being on the firing line at camp perry as far back as 65 in the book about Carlos HATHCOCK ( marine sniper) 93 confirmed kills, and i have articles on the m24 that say it can hit 1000 yards with regularity, but those are marines, not army

The Marines shoot an M40 not an M24.The M24 is built on a long action originally so that it could be switched to 300wm.
338L is a better caliber for a MRSWS than 300wm anyways.

Gents, do you or I Really require a Heavy duty Sniper Rifle???????

Aaarrggghh.. what kind of gun guy says that???? No more than you require a 50" plasma tv when a 14" b&w does the same job or any vehicle that does over 110km/hr as that is the highest alowable speed by law in the country. :D

It's never about need. We "need" very little that we actually buy. It's about wants and the ability to do so.

Switching back to 300WM was probably decided over a friendly game at a golf course. There is nothing wrong with 338LM as far as I'm concerned... I know I love mine!

Regards,

the articles i have have the marines "field testing" the m24 . they're comparing against the m40 and of all things, a 40 xb as well as a 700. Its a VERY old article
