my favorite method involves chambering it in the gun and placing your finger on the bang switch, pull it!
(with no other powder or bullet in of course, pull those out first)
And then you will have a mildly fireformed case to boot!
What if you threw the case in a glass of water first wouldnt that take care of the primer?
why would you want to screw up a perfectly good primer? Just decap as usual and save it for some plinking or practice loads.

I have used rifle primers in pistol loads with no big difference that I could tell.
I know the cups are supposed to be made of harder metal than pistol primers so they need a good stiff blow to set them off.
I have never tried it the other way though.
I just might try it to see what happens...all in the name of scientific inquiry of course.
As for brass with live primers....I just throw them in with the rest and process as normal.
