Hi Guys,

So I just got a brand new LMT CQB 16. I took the upper and lower apart to take a look at the gun and make sure I could follow the instructions on how to take it apart for basic cleaning.

When I go to re assemble the upper and lower receivers, the front take down pin goes in fine, but when I bring the two pieces together, the rear take down pins don't line up. In fact, it's almost as though the upper won't even close all the way.

I did not touch the bold carrier group, the charging handle, or anything but taking the two halves apart.

Any help you guys can offer would be much appreciated.

T.

These are some pictures of the front pin already in, and me trying to close the back end of the upper.

Nothing wrong with that gun. In fact, nice gun.

Like I said, squeeze harder. And I don't mean on the cocking handle. ;)

Cycle the hammer a couple times to make sure here's no grit under the disconnector or anywhere that might prevent the hammer from depressing and then try again.

Don't let the hammer fly forward - fire it against finger pressure.

Also, make sure the bolt stop is still moving freely and is not jammed up.

It's a rare thing to have a tight-fitting pair. Most have considerable wiggle/rattle, enough that companies make accuwedges to snug-up the two at the rear pin.

That's one nice AR!

Mine actually requires me to punch the take down pins out with a pointy object and some pressure from a hammer.

I also need one person to tap the top with a rubber mallet and another to physically hold the upper down while i push in the take down pins (again with a light tap from a rubber mallet).

Have you had the same experience?

Also, when I rack it a couple of times, i get a slight burning type smell from the charging handle. I tried coating the charging handle with a touch of CLP, same thing.

This is my first AR so, i am not sure if it's normal.

Does anything feel gritty or as though it is sticky while cycling the action?

These are all good signs go to the range and shoot that bad boy...

Have you fired it and how many rounds have you put through it?

Although even though they are to "spec" finishing some times affects fit. You should be so lucky to have a tight fitting upper/lower.

As for the charge handle, if it has been fired (even at factory) the slight odour of carbon is normal.

The gun is made to be shot. It will loosen up over time. Take it to the range. It needs some breaking in time with live ammo, not dry cycling.

I'm not sure what you're smelling aside from it being test fired, but if you keep f**king around with it, you may break it before you fire it.

However, I do understand your excitement about your new gun and the need to mess with it before you have time to go to the range.

Normal. Go shoot the hell out of it. You'll love it.

My take down pins come out with a positive push.
A pound from my hand seats the upper & lower...it's tight.
TDIGZ..Go and shoot it......enjoy the smell.
I'm very happy with my LMT.
