I'm looking into getting an 870 express tactical but I'm not a big fan of the 7 shot tube on the 18.5" barrel(I'll also be losing the goofy muzzlebreak). Are replacement 6 shot tubes commonly available?

I'm trying to go for a "mossberg persuader" look on an 870.

You can buy 1 and 2 shot extentions if that's the look you want. Casey at Tac Pro makes up a parkerized version that will probably match the finish you are looking for. Alternatively, talk with him about what you ultimately want and get him to build it for you.

unless I'm missing something, an 18.5" bbl with en extension close to the same length as the barrel will hold 6 rds of 2 3/4" and 3" shells, making capacity 6+1. factory tube hlds 4, extensions add to that so a +1 will hold 5 and be similar in length to a mossberg 500/590 w/o extension. But the barrel ring on a rem is further back than a mossberg, so it will not look the same. The "muzzlebrake" is just a cyl. bore breaching device on a standard remchoke, replace with any remchoke tube. Ive 2 got brand new IC and MOD factory remchokes if your interested, send me a PM. They sit flush with the end of the barrel.

Thanks for the info guys; this will be my first 870 so I'm still working my way around things.

The main thing that bothers me(aesthetically) is the tube sitting flush with the barrel; I'd prefer to have it sit back about 1.5" or so. I guess replacing the factory 2 shot extension with a 1 shot extension should do this?

yes that will work fine, but i really dont see whay you would want less rounds in the gun.

Im with Badboybeeson, you would be sacrificing a round for looks alone. That and the flush look is really nice...My +2 sits about 2-3 cm behind the muzzle, and I pull my hair out over it. Our work guns are the factory express and police magnums, with the factory 4 cap tube, and they look dumb with the 18" and 20" barrels. That said they send lead down range so I guess thats what counts.

On a side note, if it is your first 870, make sure you look into the magazine tube. I bought a used, but new age Express and it had a new type of magazine tube that prohibits an extension tube to be added do to little bumps. I had to drill and dremmel it out to get the follower to function properly. Police Magnums and the Tactical model should work fine.
