Does anyone have a good video/text review of this gun? Quickly google'd around and found no real good ones, saw two that some kids did and it was awful.

Thx

Just looking for a formal review either video or text, not just a bunch of comments.. Something that a guns and ammo would do, etc... Kinda like a consumer reports type thing.

What did you want to know? They are good rifles. You could do much worse....

x2

I have an all weather one in 223 and its a really good rifle. Best looking action in my opinion. Rings with integral bases are a great bonus. About the only weak point was the heavy trigger from the factory, but that is fixable.

So you would rather have the opinion of a guy that is paid to write about a specific rifle he was loaned by the manufacturer than the opinion of several people who used the rifle in real life situation for several years. Gotcha.;)

x2. Most (if not all) of the articles written in the gun mags are heavily biased to say the least.

Also, for the most part... the guns in the reviews are received new in box, and never really get used in extreme condition or see prolonged use. It's rare you'll ever read anything negative at all really, as that would be suicide for magazines that rely on advertising for the large majority of their income.

What you're looking for can fortunately be given to you in a few points:

-The M77 is a lot more gun for the money than a Remington.
-It comes with free rings/scope mounts.
-It is generally a little heavier than its competition, and tougher.
-It features a one piece bolt, controlled round feed, and a great safety.
-It has the best floorplate release in the business.
-It is stocked in nice walnut, or reasonable synthetic.
-The action is smooth and stout, and Ruger chambers a bunch of interesting chamberings in it not found in Winchester/Remington/Savage.
-It's only real competition in a standard production gun (non-Kimber etc) is the Winchester Model 70 Classic/controlled round feed, and while I own more Rugers, I've been leaning the Model 70 way as of late.

my 2 cents is that they are junk. i shoot my 270wsm out in less then 1000 rounds. good till 600 rounds then it just kept getting worse and worse. i wish i had it back tho because im smarter now and could rebarrel and rechamber it as i like the action and the trigger. mine was a great hair trigger seemed mine was a fluke.

So... just let me see if I have this clear. Runger M77's are "junk" because you burnt out the barrel. Right.

The WSM's and other short mags are notoriously tough on barrels of any make at all. I'd do a little research before labelling one of the best factory rifles (and actions) as junk.

Something doesn't smell right...

I have prolly that many rounds thru my 30-06 stainless and I consider it barely broken in. Not the lightest duck on the pond but certainly a tough one. They have a rep for reliability and good hunting accuracy. Only real complaint is the lawyer designed triggers but a good smith can sort that one out nicely. And they make lefties too. All plusses in my book. Very robust mechanism-you should be asking these questions of people that shoot them and the smiths that dont have to sort out massive warranty issues. You could do worse fer sure. In this industry they are a safe purchase.

Mine sits in an aftermarket B&C stock. The rifle is excellent I can't say enough good things about it. Very accurate, with load development it shoots consistent .700" groups. The action cycles very well and reliably. Did I mention it looks great?

I dropped the rifle while sheep hunting this year, it took a good tumble on the talus slope. The scope rings held the Zeiss conquest solidly and, despite a gouge on my new scope, it held zero despite the big jolt.

The only cons is it is a bit heavier than other rifles (a consequence of the solid M 98 style action) and the trigger is a bit heavy. The trigger does break cleanly and consistently though so I'd still rate the trigger as pretty good, just heavy.

I'll take the bottom one,..looks like a 280;)

I like the Ruger M77 Mk II........lots of rifle for the money,...can't like the finish on the new Hawkeye's though.....still smoother than a 700 SPS though...
A blued walnut Hawkeye is a good rifle IMHO,.....the trigers aren't that bad and they are workable.

Ruger M77mkII rifles are the best deal going for a hunting rifle, All my hunting rifles are Rugers. The Winchester M70 is the only other rifle in the under $1000 range that I would consider if I didn't like Rugers for some reason.

I steal the old mans MKII ultra light 30-06 everytime I go to the range. The thing just feels like a REAL GUN. And shoots like a hot damn even with the pencil thin pipe :)

I like mine, the only real issue I had was that the scope rings did'nt line up worth a damn.
Wholesale sports made it right.
Ruger rifles are a little heavier than I had gotten used to but they contain no pot metal.

No like i said, a report LIKE CONSUMER REPORTS which is unbias. The issue with getting opinions on here is that you get 10 different ones and i am no farther ahead than i am now!!! As you saw in one post after a PRO RUGER one, the guy says its garbage..

Thank you..
