I'd put money on it that they are "OUT OF STOCK" lol, happens with every flyer sale.

hear ya, they do run out... i actually did get a Marlin 795 there for $119.99 after rebates but i had to wait til their next batch came in.

I adore my 64s! All of 'em. I'm sad you had such bad luck. Same design, still in production after 50 years. They can be finicky until you find ammo they like (round nosed...no dynapoints or, truncated), get used to cleaning them every 500-100rds and, run it dry...I only lube them for storage.

That said, if I could get a Marlin for 119, that'd be the best of all.

I had an original Cooey 64 in the late 60s. Got it for a song cuz it crudded up and stopped shooting. If the new ones are on the same design spec you will need to tear down after a couple boxes of ammo unless its really clean. Not a big job but can get tedious after a while. This is why the Ruger 1022 is so popular. Nothing plugs them up. But I got bored with mine and moved on to friendlier actions. Semis are typically unfriendly for us lefties. Still have lots of 22s just no semis any more. Just bought a case of CCI Minimags and with no semis in the group it will last me a long time.

Hmm... that's the old Commodore 64 slogan- going WAY back...

as for the Marlin, it was on sale for $144, less a $25 mail in rebate, and to give due credit, the rebate process was quite smooth!

Currently, Marlin's still offering the $25 rebate on the 795. The mail in form says USA only... but so did the one I submitted last year.

Here's a link to the rebate- moderators, I'm assuming this is okay since it's not competing with any sponsors' sites, and in fact sponsors sell Marlins:
http://marlinfirearms.com/Rebates/rebates_spring2011.asp

and you can probably call Marlin to confirm the rebate's valid in Canada.

...been typing it for over a year here [CGN] and, you're the first to notice! I can't type about super-pets without getting banned, I'm sure...lol

Honestly, as much as I adore my 64's (owned many and, my goto is still the first one, purchased about 25 years ago and, it was "old" then!) if they were 119 (after rebates) and, the marlin was 139 (after rebates) I'd still push for the Marlin. I wouldn't push a 10/22 on anyone!

Regardless, the current "new price" is 100$'s less than any "new" savage 64 I saw at the Lanark show and, cheaper than many cooey 64s and, lakefield 64s in the EE.

Actually, the Commodore 64 name's being ressurected:
http://www.commodoreusa.net/CUSA_FutureModels.aspx

as a modern computer in the old box for people wanting the 'retro' look. would've gone perfectly with my non-updated 80s suburban house- too bad I moved!

And as far as new .22s go, and new rifles in general, there are some really good deals out there if you watch for them. It's not that I wish ill on the smaller vendors out there, if it's a 'commodity' like an inexpensive .22 rifle, well, I'll just buy it. It's different if it's a specialty item.

...and the more gunshows i go to, or reading i do on the EE, the more skeptical i become about some of the 'deals' i see..

got a 10/22 and marlin 795, I think the 795 is gonna give ruger a run for the money. Mine is will keep in with in a couple inches at 100 yards, and cycle any ammunition other than Remington, never missed fired or did not cycle when shooting any other ammo, just goes and goes. Really hope more accessories come for the marlin.

Same ad- Remington Golden bullets $18.97 for 525

and I know there's a whole debate on these projectiles too- just passing on the info....

Sorry but the Savage/Lakefield/Cooey 64 is a steaming pile of ####. The gun is picky about ammo, the safety sucks, the magazine release is horrible, and to disassemble the gun is a real pain.

Curious which sub-150$ .22 semi you use?

Can't deny:
-it is fussy about ammo
-Safeties on the Cooey and, Lakefield do leave a bit to be desired (charger handle fits recess in receiver) the newer Savages have added another safety...having owned the orig for 25 years, my thumb doesn't like looking for it on my newer Savage
- Curious what you found "pia" in it's take-down as compared to others...(hope you didn't torque your barrel and break an ejector)
- The magazine release is easier on my 597, no doubt...but otherwise, 64's are "comprable" to other fare

I love .22's in general and, hated my 64 for the first 4-5 years...loved it the last 20-21 years. Owned a few other since but, have it pared down to 2(64's) now...also have a Remington 597, Very old Mossberg 51M, owned a marlin 70 (and, miss it dearly)...

If I'm not mistaken, I believe they had this same one on sale last summer at some point. I went down there to get one for my father in law, and waited two hours in line (they had a "take a number" system) only to be told: "Sorry, you had to be here when the doors opened and get a ticket to get one of these rifles". Nowhere in their flyer was that ever stated, and I was told there'd be no rain check. Horrible customer service I thought. Anyways, I'll get away from my rant....I wound up grabbing one of these little beauties from LeBarons (same price), and for under $150 it's a great little knockaround rifle for plinking (of course you could grab a cooey in great shape from a gun show for around $100 that's probably better built, but if you want brand new out-of-the-box, the savage aint a bad little rifle).

I guess all the Cooey 64's dried-up from the E&E ?...

Do yourself a favour and buy Winchester 333/555's over the Remington 525-pack 'Golden'......:yingyang:....I've shot both for quite some time  , and the Winchester is definitely the better value....
