Hey Folks!

Was hoping i could get a little assistance from the crowd here on what to do with my 22. It's a Marlin semi auto - model 60S-CF, and it was an amazing little rifle for me last season, was real reliable and accurate... until one day i somehow got some lead built up in the barrel and it started shooting all over the place.. i managed to get the lead out, and the barrel seems fine. When i serviced the gun i also did an intricate cleaning of the action and trigger assembly.. all seemed fine till i put it back together and took it to the range.. The action will no longer cycle properly.. its like it's sticky in there somehow. and it rarely rechambers when fired. and when it does, the round that's cycled in seems to have some scoring on the bullet.. its like 2 parallel lines scribed into the bullet. I dont know what do to do and i was hoping for some guidance.. Maybe i need to lubricate or degrease my action some how? maybe time for a gunsmith? I dont know.

I appreciate your help!!

Update: I took it all apart again and used a scotch pad on the top of the bolt and on the inside of the receiver.. It took alot of gummy type stuff out.. and to my surprise, she's hungry once again!! haha.. Thanks to all the boys here for your help!!

Not saying there are not enough Marlin semi auto experts here, but you should also checkout the rimfirecentral.com forum for Marlin tips.

There are some CGN Marlin fans/experts though, just not as many as for the Ruger 10/22.

I am a big Marlin 60 fan, but am not an expert with its mechanicals as I have not had a chance to dismantle my two 60s yet. They have worked flawlessly so far with simple lubing, so I cannot offer any help, sorry.

Rimfire is a good site

I haven't had a 60 torn down but, my 70 (very similar) was open a few times. I would take another look at where your mag(tube) and, the "lifter" meet...might be binding there. Seriously, if it was flawless before, it should still be so, your reassembly may not have been exact opposite of disassembly.

You may not get as much help just because, Marlins being so fantastic, don't suffer in the same ways as other .22's!

So you had an accuracy problem and cleaned the gun, and when you put it back together it won't cycle properly. It's safe to assume it's something you've assembled or disassembled incorrectly.

The lines on the jammed bullets are likely from the bottom of the bolt gouging it when it slides over the partially chambered bullet.
Two possible causes for the rifle not chambering are the carrier/"lifter" might be rough and binding on tool marks in the mag well. If I recall the carrier spring being improperly positioned could cause it to ride heavily to one side also. It should be lifting without touching the sides of the mag well, and not too far off to one side.
The other thing that will cause it is if you removed or replaced the bolt in such a way as to bend a kink in the recoil spring, and the bolt is riding it rough.
Good luck, i love the 60 and put a few hundred rounds through mine just today. they are great rifles!
