It may sound like we want to use all the unused time in all the ranges in Poco. But logistically it is impossible because to have that type of set up we need people to work and frankly there just isn't enough dedicated people who would have the free time to make it happen.
There are simply not enough Safety Officers to manage a larger set up.
So one week-night a week for practice and one Sunday per month for club shoot is all that can be managed with the current number of people shooting IDPA.
Of course once more people are interested and more people take the Safety Officer training course then a larger pool of people will make it possible to increase the size of the monthly club match.
The set up for competition is the same as IPSC. If you have shot IPSC then you can understand the amount of work and committment needed to make it happen. Safety features are the same between IPSC and IDPA. Which means only one shooter is on the line shooting the course of fire with a minimum of two SO looking after him/her at each stage. So man power is the main limiting factor at the moment.
But given the excellent facilities at Poco and the large number of members, IDPA might be attractive to quite a number of people. The Production shooters at IPSC will definitely be able to shoot IDPA, all you need to do is to put a jacket on while you are shooting and be familiar with the rules of IDPA.
Frankly the only real difference is Cover, tactical sequence and tactical reloads. We have even played with three guns. Your pistol that you wear, the AR and a shot gun (sometimes the revolver that is on a stand when you run out of ammo), all used in one stage. Frankly its a whole lot of fun.
So give it a try. Then you make up your mind. Open invitation to come to Chilliwack Wed nights or first Sunday of the month. Just send pm to me or Rottboy. We will look after you. If you don't have the equipment, we will lend you everything, the holster gun and ammo. You have to bring your jacket tho. LOL
What I am saying is, have an open mind, try it out first then make your dicision to have IDPA at Poco or not. Come and meet those who shoot IDPA and check us out also. We are really not power hungry people. We just want to shoot IDPA. As for running the BOD of any club? For me you can keep it, there is no fun in management!!!! I am retired. The fun is in the shooting!!!!! And I really don't like the driving!!!!!
