If i want to take me shotgun hunting, how tough is it to re register my shotgun to state that the bbl is short?

I spoke to the folks at Miramichi about this last week. I mentioned that I wanted to get a shorter barrel for my 870 and the lady instantly wanted to change the details of my 870 from the stock 30" barrel to the shorter one. However, she told me that it was not necessary to register the shorter barrel.

I have a 26" 870 and the registration says "Barrel over 470mm"

That's 18.5".

Stick on one of those 12.5" beauties and now I have a non-restricted shotty that doesn't match the cert.

So although she says no re-registration is she sending you amended paperwork?

Minds have to know!!! I called CFC, no need to re-register as they don't register barrels and as long as it doesn't change the class to restricted, nothing to do.

Which is great, right up until you are standing at the side of the road with LEO with a non-restricted 12.5 shottie and a cert that says barrel over 18.5......

Someone must have been "interviewed" roadside with this by now???

They will change the certificate to under 470mm... I asked what would happen if it had a longer barrel and they requested a list of barrels which I own which may end up on the gun...

Yep, slap on an 18 incher, call the CFC (whom may or may not demand that you get the thing "verified") and they will issue a new cert which states "under 470mm".

Both of my shotguns have such certificates.

Any cop pulls me over and finds her wearing a longer barrel that day well "I'm truly sorry Officer, here is a less than 470mm barrel, let me put in on there" ....

End of story. (as long as OAL is more than 660mm)
