Gophers killed 2011

If I wanted to spend $7 a box then I'd only shoot stingers. Much flatter, fewer misses, much more dramatic kills.

I for one never buy Stingers, even when I do shoot a few gophers with a 22lr, which is rare. For almost the price of 17mach2 loads, they are still about 500fps slower, and not nearly as flat shooting as the 17mach2. And accuracy wise, they don't shoot nearly as well in either my 22lr rifles as either of my 17mach2s shoot.

Two weeks ago I chewed through 248 rounds of 223 East of Regina - estimate I hit about 200 of the furry buggers - snow was so deep I couldn't get 22 range away from them.
Last weekend East of the hometown in Alberta here me and my sons went through a brick of 22LR and another 300 223 (all we brought with us) skipping critters off of far snowbanks once they got wise to lethal 22LR range :D

I dunno - I've shot more this year then I did last year. Got denied permission to shoot with rifle on a real HEAVILY populated patch of land (they raise gunshot sensitive critters) - but when I mentioned archery I was begged to return when the snow goes away and shoot as many as possible. Can't wait!

After last night, total gophers taken out of action in the one field is 567. 450 shot by yours truly. A little slow for the first hour, but by then I had moved to a place where I hadn't shot yet and got 30 in less than 15 minutes. Looking for a NICE weekend!

You Sask. farm boys better move over 'cause us old Manitoba sharp shooters are moving in in another 5 weeks..... The reason for the invasion-- We've cleaned out our back yards of those pesky critters and it sounds like you boys need all the help you can get... So just stand clear and don't get in the pro's way................lol TGB.

A few met their maker here yesterday. They're staying out later now. Will go out again today and probably tommorrow with 204saskman and also introducing gopher shooting to our new German import here in town.

Headed out Sunday afternoon with the old man to look for some snow geese.

I'll bring the 220 Swift and 416 Rem to tag a few gophers.

My son and I got another 179 today. Again with the wind...

he somehow jammed 11 rounds into both 10-rd magazines, that jammed the action, pushed the magazine fwd, squeezed the lips of the magazine together. After that, the magazine kept going up to far into action and would not strip off a round to feed it into the chamber. Had to give him mine. I took the spare rifle. Wrong ammo, had to zero in the field. Wasted a few rounds but then got it on and whacked the hell out of them gophers.

i can fit 11 rounds in all of my savage mkII mags and it functions perfectly with all of them.

Not in a 64B however. The rim of the round catches in back of the magazine lips and it won't feed from the mag. the bolt comes forward with enough force to jam the magazine forward and drive it deeper into the action, bending the magazine lips inward, and making all subsequent rounds hang up on the rim.

Wow, some of you guys have hit some big numbers already! I went out yesterday and shot a cool dozen. I was mostly scouting and talking to farmers so my shooting kind of took a back seat. Peak season isn't until June and I secured a couple more quarters of land for shooting next time.

6 with the 17 mach2 (love the red tip daggers!)
6 with my Russian combo 22 mag/410 (2 shot at close range with 410 #6 shot, 2 at around 40 yards with 410 slugs and 2 with CCI TNT's)

I shot at around 20 but they were unconfirmed hits.

My Russian beauty is going to get a good workout this year although when the shooting gets a bit heavy, my XCR is going to take over. :)

Went out with my co-worker today, we finished up with 212 kills for the afternoon. 2 thirds of them were with .17hmr's, the rest with .22's. Could of been a good few more if the wind never picked up, but still a very good 1st day out shooting.

I whacked a few more yesterday. Although I enjoy the "chunking" effect of the 223, I am a BIG fan of the 22-250's point and click laser-ness (if that is even a word). If it ain't a word, it should be!

1 with a 22LR at about 15yards... trying to get into my folks place.

Anybody know any good places to shoot em in Ontario (central area), and just to be sure you DO need a Small game right?

me and Cummins4x4 went out to day i got a few with my .22 and he got a bunch with his .204 not as many out as there were last time and i couldn't get into a couple of my faveorite spots but all in all a good time.
