AIA improved Enfields

I have the full wood version.
Love it! Beautiful wood, fine machining, and great finishing.
It is heavy, but the wood is too nice to drag it up mountains anyway.

I wish I could get a B3 target!

Other Enfield sights will fit in, but the click Mk I type do not have the clearance milled for the little wheel at the top...they hit.

The Cmk3 sights fit right in, I put one on the one I had.

The 303 version is nice. I like mine a lot.

I must admit though that I like the version in 7.62x39 as much and maybe a bit more. The one thing about them that stands out right away, is their weight. They are heavy. The 7.62x39 model isn't a lot lighter either.

Very good and accurate rifles.

The biggest drawback is that a lot of clubs won't allow their use in milsurp shooting. When you see them perform, you will see why. They are definitely a cut above a wartime manufactured rifle.

You're right, but neither are the No4 MkII rifles in the wrap.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. I agree that they shouldn't be included.

All I was trying to do was give the OP a heads up.
 
Incidently, I was reading some info on these rifles recently, AIA only makes 1200 rifles per year, so these guns will always be somewhat scarce on the market - they normally sell out the years production in Australia without having to export. I'd love a B3 Match, I think it's as close as to an L42 as I will ever get.
 
I like my AIA No4Mk4 but I really want one of these...

Aia b10 match

I have one of these beauties sitting in my gun locker. It's currently fitted with an original Tasco IDF Sniper scope, harris by-pod. it is going to be my modernized LG-42 Sniper. Range report and pics to follow.
 
I picked up the Sport model, and it shoots like a dream. I haven't had a chance to really play with handloads yet, but I am sure it can do at least 1" groups. Earlier on in this thread I read someone had trouble mounting the sight base. I had absolutely no issues with it whatsoever. I did have to remove the rear iron sight in order to accomodate my Accupoint. I really REALLY didn't like the finish on the wood, so I stripped it down, did a bunch of coats of a colonial maple stain, and topped it off with a bunch of tung oil coats. Turned out beautiful! I would suggest this rifle to anyone. It IS heavy, but I am a big dude, so it doesn't bother me too much. It is about the same length as my jungle carbine.

Definitely but at the EOHC match we have an open class where you could shoot one of these.

I have the full wood one on my radar, just waiting for one to show up on the EE at the right time. Yes, I am the guy who does not need it RIGHT away and is will to wait for someone to make an impulse buy and decide to sell two months later. Of course this never happens on this board because none of us are obsessive-compulsive :nest:

So their's no difference in accuracy between a chrome-lined barrel and a standard steel barrel?

Im interested of getting one since I love the actions on the Enfield.

Question about the durability of the finish of the AIA, I saw some marks on every AIA no4 that I saw in photos. Is that an issue?

The whole "not surplus" thing is a little confusing to me. I own an Alf Parker built Service Rifle B gun, basically a blueprinted No4 Mk2 built in the '50's using a surplus new action, a Parker barrel, properly bedded and fitted with a PH5C rear sight. Would this be considered a 'surplus ' rifle, or not? If so, I can't see why the AIA's wouldn't be allowed.
 
Military surplus definition is usually "as issued to the military, no changes, not just action, full wood etc". This is why an open class for sporterised ones was created, so we can all have some fun with the old military rifles. The full AIA certainly falls in a grey zone, as a full Enfield in design, so as issued, there where .308 Enfields, but suppose the AIA was not ever issued and never intended to be, now if it had the name Lithgow, just dreaming. Bring that sporterised to military, shoot "Open Class" and have fun. Yup, I have the AIA M10 No.4, I would like to shoot it in service, but it does not qualify, could not use my scoped Enfield the other day either as not as issued, :(, but that is what makes the service rifle class, otherwise it would just be a rifle anything shoot.
