kel tec sub 2000

I looked at one, then I looked a JR Carbine, the JR came home with me. The Sub 2K was just to much plastic and not made that well and difficult to mount any optics. I don't see why people are crazy for them, if they didn't fold they wouldn't have anything going for them.

Just my 2cents!

with the new sub 2000 in canada now, maybe we can start a discussion on tweaks, mods, loads, and any problems and solutions that we can share with a growing sub 2000 community....

I love my sub 2000, i have quad rail (bloody expensive, make sure you use the loctite that comes with it), & grip pod.

I have 2 X 10/33 mags and 1x10 mag (cant get more than 8 rounds in this mag)

Used winchester 115gr fmj and wolf 135gr lead rn, found the wolf gives better accuracy.

the sub 2K is a great lill' firearm. Sure the JR' is neet, but its not nearly as compact. Plus, how cool is a folding gun lol. The wife's keeping her's mostly stock. Maybe a laser/light combo down the road. Gotta think about it, the point of the gun is small and compact, great for storage. Start hanging to much stuff off it and well, ya might as well get a Jr'. I find her's to be really accurate to 50+ yards with the stock sights.

I agree it is very compact and light, this is the main reason I got it. I can carry it in my pack when out on the bike or hiking/fishing. I also find the glock clip is hard to fit the last 2 shots in it. Is the beratta mag the same

This is exactly why I chose the JR Carbine. I understand other people who want the folding option but the quality difference between the two was so large that I had to choose the JR. You get a lot more gun for just over 100 dollars.

For $350 the Sub 2000 is an awesome gun!

It is awesome that it is so light weight and folds up really compact.

It is pretty reliable and accurate as well.

I was really interested when I hear they were going to be coming our way and non restricted.

I went to Buffalo Gun Centre and played with one and was impressed with what you can get for $350.

I was sure I was gonna buy one when they finally were available this side of the border.

Then they finally arrived.

$675!!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ill save my money. :jerkit:

The only reason they get the reviews they do, and sell so well in the states is the price. If they were $675 stateside I am sure we would be hearing some different reviews.

I have no interest in a gun that I can break over my knee with minimal force. At least not at that price.

I was just calling around my local shops for a pinned larger glock mag for my sub2000 thinking they may be easier to load. The guy at the shop told me that he just received a letter from the RCMP stating that it is illegal to use a 10 rd center fire pistol mag in any rifle. So all the Subs will have to be pinned to 5 rds. This will also effect your AR15 10 rd LAR mag.

Is this true, anyone know. It does say "most magazines" not all, is this a loophole.

This is from the RCMP website.

Q7. What is the maximum number of cartridges that a firearm magazine can legally hold?

A7. As set out in Criminal Code Regulations, some large-capacity magazines are prohibited regardless of the class of firearm to which the magazines are attached. As a general rule, the maximum magazine capacity is:

•5 cartridges for most magazines designed for a semi-automatic centre-fire long gun; or
•10 cartridges for most handgun magazines
A large-capacity magazine is not prohibited if it has been permanently altered so that it cannot hold more than the number of cartridges allowed by law. Acceptable ways to alter a magazine are set out in the regulations.

There is no limit to the magazine capacity for semi-automatic rim-fire long guns, or for other long guns that are not semi-automatics.

Not accurate. This is PROBABLY in response to some of the .22 AR-15 lookalike rifles who have had their mags ruled as being for a pistol and therefore limited to 10 rounds.

As Claven2 said, it is probably the notice the RCMP sent out in regards to the M&P 15-22 magazines: http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/bulletins/bus-ent/20110323-72-eng.htm

The Sub-2000 and JR Carbines are able to use 10 round pistol magazines, as mentioned in part 4 of this notice. The distinction is that the rifles do not ship with magazines that are marked as being designed specifically for either rifle. If they did, then those specific magazines marked as being manufactured for use in these rifles would have to be limited to 5 rounds, even if they were identical in appearance and function to a Glock magazine. Glock magazines themselves however, have been marketed for decades as being manufactured specifically for use in the Glock pistols and nothing else, so they are treated as pistol magazines only, no matter what else they may be used in.

I wasnt too sure when i saw them on the net, but i thought i would give it a try from wolverine. seems most comments from ppl down south who have em seems to say you either love it or hate it. most haters of it complain about the so-called plastic, but i have a glock, and a M&P and i am sold on polymer. the best thing i like about the kel tec is the weight, it like holding a pellet gun, and i find it very strong and solid when shooting..
the accuracy is very good, and i was able to mount my eotech holosight on it very easily, and by using a quick release mount i can easily remove it for folding and snap it back on for shooting, and it holds zero perfectly.....
i wanted a carbine for shooting at the club, i looked at the storm, hi point, jr carbine...and i went with the kel tec ....and i love it.
when they come out with a .40 that takes m&p mags....i'm all over it :)

Love the Sub2000. Light, compact, Glock 10 rd mags, nonrestricted. A bit pricey & uncomfortable to shoot, but thats the price you pay to own it. Want 1 in 10mm now!

Well worth the investment ! :)

I will have to get one of those loaders.

You have any pics of your sub with the holosight on it. I would like to see how you did it.

I put the stock extension on my sub adds 1 1/4" makes it more comfortable to hold..

I own a Sub 2000.

Pros:
-Perfect weight/balance for me
-450 rounds so far, no jams of any kind, tried Geco (Dynamit-Nobel) 124 gr, Winchester WB 115gr, American Eagle 124gr and 147gr, all FMJ round nose
-Folding ability lets me use a smaller case, which can make a difference if travel space is an issue
-Light recoil
-Very easy to clean chamber and barrel while folded
-Quad rail is holding up with no issues either (make sure to degrease everything before assembling, I used stronger locktite white/red on all rail screws)
-Decent accuracy, about the same as my stock Ruger 10/22 but much flatter shooting, probably 4-6" groups at 100 yards in my hands

Cons:
-Iron sights are ok for me (peep sight/post style), some people have a hard time craning their necks the right way to line up
-Front sight targeting post sucks durability/reliability wise (the orange plastic piece), I plan to make one out of metal, maybe redo the rear post as well as change the front post screw/nut
-Full disassembly is a pain, lots of parts to watch
-Optics on quad rail need to be removed to allow gun fold up
-Brass pin lock is meh, I use a pull though pad lock to keep it safe locked/folded
-Burning plastic smell for the first couple hundred rounds, smells like normal grease and burnt powder now, no stress fractures or worrisome burn marks though
-Can really ding up ejecting brass if reloading is an issue, no split cases but kind of deformed with various dents and squashes
-Optics on quad rail require either high rings to clear front post or a big objective like that one Tasco red dot (which sights pretty nicely thought the front post loop)

As it is:

Unique gun, cheap to shoot, easy to clean (barrel anyway), more punch than a 22 with better flatness.

So far has killed many dangerous types of fruit and evil soda cans.
