Still new to the different regulations and restrictions. I have 2 non-restricted firearms registered in BC and Im in Alberta. I want to bring them to AB to use and enjoy. Are there any restrictions to doing this?

Thanks!

The firearms registration is a federal nationwide program.

The only thing that is dealt with provincially is the ATT's issued by the CFO for restricted firearms only.

If they were restricted you would have to jump through some hoops to get a transport permit to take them where you are going which might be a pain, but if they are non restricted you have no worries as you can take em where you want when you want.

As OP is from BC this may not be of much concern, but in NB and NS people need some form of what is basically a provincial ATT to drive around with non-res. And they can't plink in the woods with anything larger than .23. So some provincial rules do apply. Hunting regulations applied to anything and everything.

Wow, i didn't know that about NB and NS. I guess the BS is spreading! sad to hear.

what about restricted and going from BC to AB?

Im going to assume that i would need an ATT but what about location? as i'd be staying in a hotel

WOW, I bet .223-.220swift are really popular calibers.

wow I never knew about that in NS either and I have guns in my car more than groceries , I would really like to see that in print . Sure you can't just walk out into the woods and plink that's why I joined a club . What happens when you buy a non restricted firearm out of season call the CFO for an ATT ?

You're BC ATT should be good to the border, then you will have to call AB CFO to bring it in to the province. They will want to know where you plan on shooting it and for how long you will be in Alberta. Then, if they're satisfied, they will issue you a STATT with the dates you specify.

I asked the NL CFO the same question about leaving NL to go to ON with restricted, she told me to give her the address in ON (we are moving there) and they will do up a ST ATT (7-10days) from point A to Point B.........all I have to do is take the most direct route, as for non restricted and regs regarding transport, romove the bolt & it ceases to be a firearm ;) - "Federal Laws & Regs will ALWAYS superceed provincial law" thats coming from a friend of mine who is a retired RCMP Officer and is now a Senior wildlife officer with DNR

hmm.. i'd also like to see this in print stating it was illegal.. i've never heared of such a thing.. and just like Eh class.. I drive around with guns more than anything else... even in my back seat I've always got somthing with me.. i've never had a police officer say anything either... I plink with everything from 7.62 to .303 never a problem.. all non-restricted.. only thing I believe we have to do is call in when we move and live somewhere else...

Contact your provincial Minister of Natural Resources and demand changes to your provincial hunting regulations. Enough people demanding change is the only way this will get fixed.

Really ?!? when I go from Montreal to Ottawa for matches I ask the Quebec CFO to issue the ATT and it's valid in Ontario.....
