Frontier , .30 Carbine RN 110 GR - anybody have these at home? how do they perform? I would like to try them but they only sell it by box of 1000 that cost 83$.

I would like to try them in my M14 before buying a big box. anyone know where I can find smaller box, or even better I would pay lets say 15$ for 30 bullets to someone that have them.

.30 Carbine in an M-14? I am not an M-14 fan and haven't followed it too closely, but are you sure that's what you want?
 
yeah same diameter, it me be a little smaller (length) I have to check though. I've already shot some 110gr with success, so all I'm trying to find now is cheaper plinking bullets.
 
Right - bullets. Sorry for the confusion. They should fit the bore, but whether they would feed is another issue.
 
I've used these in my 308. Lightly loaded they are about the same recoil as a 223. Haven't shot them enough to give a final answer on accuracy but they've been good enough for me for under 100 yard plinking. You can buy them in smaller amounts from Budget Shooter Supply if you want to try them out. Henry is great to deal with.
 
I've shoot them allot. I ran out and I need to go to Higginson Powders to pick up a box soon.

So this is my exploits for the M14 using that Frontier 110 plated RN projectiles.

I use the "load" by C.E. (Ed) Harris formula but with IMR Trailboss instead of Red Dot. It works really well and fairly accurate for 50-100 yard shots. You need to cycle the bolt by hand though.

The other load I've used successfully for maximum 50 yards shooting is 38 grains of H4895. I used this load for the CQB portion of Service Rifle since the ranges are very close, 25-15 yards. It cycles the bolt just enough to be reliable and kicks like a 223.

For 83$ for a 1000, it's a very good choice to have when the 308 cost so much. You can't find projectiles for the .223 that is comparatively cheaper.

Oh cool, I knew it was possible to shot them with a M14, my bro who's reloading for me was skeptical about them. He said the bullet would shred into piece when it get out of the rifle.

Now I cannot make research about the possible load in the .308 using 110gr, cause I'm in exam session. After my exams, I'm planning on getting a load that will use less grain but burn faster. Like pistol powder, I read some article about guys making semi-subsonic load with that kind of powder. They’re saying to keep the density as high as possible, over 40%. (Volume of powder occupying the inside of the cartridge). 2nd they were explaining that the riffling need to have enough spin, if the spin is too slow your bullet won’t get stable in the air ( 1:10 twist or faster).

my goal is not to develop subsonic load, but a load that make fly my bullet around 2600 to 2800 FPS so it stay in the spec of the M14. I heard that if you fire round over 3000 fps, it could damage your riffling in a premature way.
Finally if this load could make my m14 cycle I'd be more than happy :).

I've played with QuickLOAD and find out these powder where making a good slope of pressure and build enough energy to project the bullet from 2000 to 2700 fps.
alliant herco, adi ap100, lovex d036, pb clermon pcl 506 and 501, ramshot true blue, rottweil p803, somchem s221, vihtavuori n105 and 3n38.

the thing is what is the best velocity for 100 meter.
 
With 7 grains of trailboss, I'm going sub-sonic with the 110 frontier projectile.

I do believe they are talking about heavier bullets like the 168s in sub-sonic for the 1-10 twist. Some 168s get unstable when they transition from transonic to sub-sonic velocities apparently.

Don't expect those frontier projectiles to be the best performers in terms of accuracy. They are still copper plated after all and could easily shed their plating to the rifling if you are going extremely fast. They are still 30 carbine profectiles meant for that cartridge velocities. If you want to go faster with 110 RN, just go with a properly jacketed bullet that has a generous copper between the rifling and lead core.
 
I'm pretty sure that these bullets are suppose to be kept under 2000 fps. I think it's Berry's that makes that recommendation with their bullet with the same characteristics. Load them more like a lead bullet.

Someone may correct me on this but that's how I've been using them. My load gets them going about 1650 fps.
