I am presently considering buying a .22 Tactical rifle, but I just dont know which one to go for !

The Ruger SR22 seem to be a nice one, but the remington 597 VTR 22LR does not look bad either.

I would like to install a AR style Grip rear sight and a Barrel mounted ''A'' style front sigh post on the front if possible.

Since I am NEW to tactical stuff can some of you guys give me you taughts on both model and the availlable options and accessories for both ?

Any info will be greatly appreciated !!

I'm not one to ever suggest 10/22s (the guts in an SR22) but really...sounds like the one you're after. There are plenty of people who say the Remington is more accurate than the Ruger, but I can't say~I've never shot a 597. (the guts in a VTR) I do know that stock 10/22 triggers are terrible, and I haven't heard of the SR22 having anything but a standard trigger. Oh...and I think the SR22 is a bit cooler looking.

I have no plans on ever getting a black .22lr unless somebody starts bringing in the Kel-Tec SU-22. Not sure there is much interest in them...I think I'm the only guy making any noise about it. :)

I've heard rumblings we may see the SU-22 here in Canada in 2012.. The SU-16 will be here very soon - I've got one on pre-order now and waiting :ar15:

Handle each one first. I hate the feel of the 597 and the ruger was way awkward and felt horrible to me. The mossberg altho light fit good. I haven't shot any of them done up just the standard models of each

The 597 / VTR I have was under $450 (compared to $600 for the ruger) and has a nice colapsible stock. It shoots great (accurate and resonable trigger weight/feel) and 25round factory mags are cheap and reliable but the front forestock / barrel cover is solid metal (no easy way to mount extra stuff other than a sling or bipod) and it weighs a lot so that would probably be the first thing to change if it can be done. There are also no iron sights already on the barrel so I don't know how you would barrel mount the front sights you want.
Hope this helps.

I've heard the same...but there is no talk (interest?) in this forum it seems. From what I've read, it's a pretty well-liked .22 in the US. If anyone has the inside scoop or an ETA...please feel free to post it! :)

Have you looked at the Mossberg Tactical .22? Selling for $275 or less at a store near you:D and 25 round mags are now available.

the 10/22 platform has waaaay more options.Just saying..

I also say build your own. Its great fun and satisfying

what I would say as well,

neit industries makes a nice chassis for the 10/22 that lets you use all ar style furniture and goodies, dlask makes great barrels so does green mountain, hornet triggers are cheap and 10x better than factory ...the list goes on, the remmy 597 dosnt have nearly the aftermarket following is the 1 downfall I found and ultimetly the reason I sold it

in the end what fun is having the same plinker as others :D

only problem with that is that most airsoft guns have better build quality, as does nerf

pick one up it only looks cool

I'd say the build quality is just as good as a good airsoft and it costs about the same. Looks cool and shoots .22's, very well I might add, so what's your beef.
