Army’s XM2010 sniper rifle gets full fielding

I can see why 300 are better than 338lapua,

This should be good...

Got figures on what the Government rate is on ammo?

300wm are American, while 338lapua are Europe

The Pinto was American and the BMW M5 is European. Swing-and-a-miss.

300 is underage

Quoi???

not as effective as 338lapua but in most instance does the jobs.

Not as effective makes it better? The Fail is unuaually strong with you tonight.

THe XM2010 is a chassis system which allows the former M24 to get a make over. As some of you may know the M24 is built on the long action which was convertable to the 300 WM, this allows their current system to be converted with less dollars then building an entire new system. The .338 option is tied up in the Precision Sniper Rifle (PSR) requirement. USASOC is currently testing the ones that were submitted to them I believe. The "Big Army" has not released their requirement yet

Just because some army unit using 338lapua does mean that is all be, if you can take out a target with using less resour, why resor To over kill if there is no need.

Some facts on .308 and .338 calibers in competition for US sniper rifle:
  • 300 Win Mag 220gr SMK as effective as 338 Lapua Mag 250gr SMK
  • 338 Lapua Mag 300gr SMK far more effective than 300 Win Mag 220 SMK
  • 338 Norma Mag 300gr SMK more effective than 338 Lapua Mag 300 SMK
That's the major problem right now stopping 338 Lapua Mag adoption, not 300 Win Mag performance.
Many great cartridges have not been adopted by US Military: 276 Peterson and 280 British :(

suppressor or not, that rifle look very nice.
The look of kick Ass, is ain't some little hick town precision rifle.

. Can you imagine the USArmy using a Canadian rifle.
I agree about the 300 Magnum it is a poor second to the 338 LM in performance The US Military does what it likes I am surprised they did not go with .338 RUM.
The US Army is required by the Berry amendment to purchase from US companies . If they could purchase the Timberwolf why would they when you can buy a off the shelf rifle for considerably less and have a reliable parts supply

I think maybe some of the US non regular forces may already be using Timberwolf's. I know Kyle Defoor loved the Timberwolf that he tried in the folding stock version he wrote an article saying how good it was. I am pretty sure though that some US special forces types are using C14's :canadaFlag::rockOn:

Yes they are mandated to have forgien weapons in there inventory just like JTF 2

Here's what Kyle Defoor has to say about the Timberwolf:cool:

Canadians went to it years ago and I thought nothing of it. Arrogantly assuming my issued .300 WINMAG was on par, and if it wasns't I could make up the difference in performance. Boy, was that ever the wrong thought! I first got to shoot it about 2 years ago when some Canadian snipers came down to run the yard lines. My first impression was, well, impressed. Still, only 20 or 40 rounds really is not enough to make the call.

Recently, thanks to Larry's personal collection and us being on a T.V. show about guns, I got to shoot it for about 3 days and 250 or so rounds. I will admit that months ago I selfishly suggested the Timberwolf for an episode, secretly hoping I'd get a lot of time on it.

I can say now without question it's the best sniper rifle I've ever seen, shot or heard of(of course, having Schmidt & Bender's 5 to 25 on top ain't hurting) It weighs in at only 3lbs more than a Remington 700! The benefits of the Lapua .338 are well worth 3 lbs. .338 to .308 is almost like comparing .308 to 5.56. It flys that flat, with many .50 cal traits in tow without the agony of the BMG.

If you're a military leader and you're reading this, seriously ask why the U.S. doesn't have this in the inventory. If you need more convincing, watch the episode on it coming up in a few weeks.
