Food for thought when next we consider gun control. Before you head to the polls in our upcoming election take a minute to mull this over. Then maybe pass it on to a non-hunter/non gun owner and let them mull it over too. Maybe this will open the minds of those who may be in denial....

Think about the Canadian hunters and Canada.

Largest Army

The army... America 's hunters! I had never thought about this....
A blogger added up the deer license sales in just a handful of states and
arrived at a striking conclusion:

* There were over 600,000 hunters this season in the state of Wisconsin .
* Allow me to restate that number.
* Over the last several months, Wisconsin 's hunters became the eighth
largest army in the world.
* More men under arms than in Iran .
* More than in France and Germany combined.
* These men deployed to the woods of a single American state to hunt with
firearms, and no one was killed.
* That number pales in comparison to the 750,000 who hunted the woods of
Pennsylvania and Michigan 's 700,000 hunters, all of whom have now
returned home.
* Toss in a quarter million hunters in West Virginia and it literally
establishes the fact that the hunters of those four states alone would
comprise the largest army in the world.
* The point?
* America will forever be safe from foreign invasion with that kind of
home-grown firepower.
* Hunting -- it's not just a way to fill the freezer. It's a matter of
national security.
* That's why all our enemies, both foreign AND domestic, want to see us disarmed.

yes, large army. large army of obese rednecks that can barely make it to their treestand without getting winded, or simply never get out of the truck. large army that misses, gut shoots or never sees it's target.

There are them guys, then there are also hunter's that Are in Fact very lethal with a Variety of Firearms...

Everyone has to keep an open mind on this thread.

Irregardless of the op, I take great offence to a couple posters responses. They certainly don't describe any hunters I know, and are cardboard cutout anti hunting stereotypes. Simply put, if you hate hunters so much then do us a favor and don't frequent the forum.

We'll stay out of the playing video games in your momma's basement forum.

Owning a gun doesn't make you battle trained and ready...at least half the hunters I would bet are one OR a few of these.....old althought doesn't always mean much, over weight...sometimes REALLY over weight, a poor shot, only shoots their super magnum a few times a year cause its expensive and they are scared of it, are too drunk and/or loud to actually hunt.

Back in the 1960's Castro made a comment about America's armed population. He commented to the Russians that he was more concerned about every other house having a deer rifle and invasion of the US would be impossible because of this. Russia and later Cuba banned private ownership long before this...as we all know.

Didn't some Japanese general say something along those lines too...."Invanding American is impossible, there will be a rifle behind every blade of grass" or something close to that I believe.

I think this is the point the OP is trying to make. No, we're not battle ready, but so many people with firearms does present a significant challenge to an invading threat.

Consider what kind of governments in history have required registration of firearms, and what they have done with those firearms later down the road. Evil governments don't like the idea of people with guns who know how to shoot.

So when voting, consider which governing party will want to take away your firearms [NDP, Liberal] and which party will try to get rid of the long-gun registry if granted a majority [Conservative].

The US got pearl harbor because the fact japan knew they could never invade. We have a great number of hunters who use firearms ya but how many would step up and fight? Have you been the the states lately? I'm not scared of deer hunters its the drivers on the roads that scare the hell outta me. And yes I do think they try to run canadians off their roads lmao

The US got Pearl Harbor because of the oil embargo they placed on Japan after they invaded China

Well at least there are a couple guys on here who get it. I bet the teacher had a tough time explaining things to the rest in school! You know the old pass them along, they will get it someday! For those who were too dumb or ignorant to "understand " the gist of it...go ahead keep voting Liberal or NDP, sounds like you do anyways!!:(

Yamamoto. He recieved his formal and college education in the U.S., at Harvard I believe.

The point here is that today Canada or the US is not going to get "invaded" and destroyed by some enemy...we do a good enough job of that ourselves. But, I strongly believe we would not be a countries in our present form if we had not had private ownership of firearms.

Yep You get it.:D

If there was NO validity to it then why do ALL the dictator countries take the firearms away.
Of course it's not an army in the strict sense of the word but it sure be a force to be reckoned with.
As far as worrying about how many would run or stand and fight, it is the same now if we were forced to defend ourselves. Some would get to the next level and some would get the snot pounded out of them.

If you had to fight, do you want to do it with a firearm or playstation?
