Help with my daughter's ruger 10-22

My daughter's brand new 10-22 was shooting off to the left (with its factory sites) so I adjusted the windage by moving the front site. It was really stuck, but as it said so in the manual, I used a brass piece of metal to help cushion the tap of the hammer to move it the appropriate direction. So I got it shooting quite nicely. So then the next time we went out, I was all happy because I knew my daughter was going to be happy with how much more accurate she was going to be. But between mags, I look at the front sight and here it is almost falling out and off the gun. I can now move the sight into any position with my bare hands. What gives, how does one lock it back into the right position? Anyone out there familiar with this problem? Otherwise this is a great gun, my daughter and I love it! But this was a weird problem.

Just a couple of light taps with a centre punch on the edge of the barrel dovetail will keep it right there. You can also just mess up the sharp edges of the front sight dovetail and tap it back into place. You might want to do your adjustment using half front and half rear sight movement if the rear is dovetailed also. I can't remember and I don't have a stock barrel to look at anymore.

Ouch... Just can't seem to win with that rifle eh?

I have a factory 10/22 sight blade you can have if you like, won't need it with my new setup...

Thanks for letting me play with your toys at the range!
