Besides NCStar? I see they have a 2-7x model, buuuuuuuuuut I'd rather not go with NCStar unless I had no other option - I hear they aren't great quality.

It'd be going on a .223 if I got one, though, so recoil would be negligible.

Nightforce, Trijicon, Vortex even Leupold, but they all cost more $$ than the NC stuff

They're all red dot scopes though, aren't they? I want a scout-scope style scope, with at least 4x magnification, more would be better, and illuminated crosshairs for early morning or late evening.

That slims the playing field down considerably. You did not mention in the original post what the purpose was or the type of rifle.
Trijicon makes an ACOG that would possibly work, the others I mentioned do not make an "extended eye relief" optic which is what you need for this application.

If for hunting, what about the Bushnell 3200 3-9 Firefly ?

Bushnell 6500 1.25-8. 6.5 inch eye relief. Not sure if it has an illuminated reticule.
