North America's Hunters...The Largest Army In The World!

I think it was just trying to point out how, many firearms and hunters were gathered in one place in a short amount of time without any negative incident. This is actually truely remarkable. I did not think the numbers were so astounding.

Orwell's thought on "Home Guard"

Complete quote of often misquoted Georges Orwell:

"Even as it stands, the Home Guard could only exist in a country where men feel themselves free. The totalitarian states can do great things, but there is one thing they cannot do: they cannot give the factory-worker a rifle and tell him to take it home and keep it in his bedroom. THAT RIFLE HANGING ON THE WALL OF THE WORKING-CLASS FLAT OR LABOURER'S COTTAGE, IS THE SYMBOL OF DEMOCRACY. IT IS OUR JOB TO SEE THAT IT STAYS THERE."

As I was told once, these arms were sent over on loan and fastidiously recorded as to whom sent what with the understanding they would be returned after the war. The bulk of these arms were dumped into the English Channel.

I didn't quote Yamamoto but rather Castro. He did speak highly of the US and it's potential which was not understood well by Japans higher up's. Commonly believed he made the statement and thanks for the clairification. Only stated that he, Commander and Chief of the Japans navy during WWII, recieved his education at Harvard in the USA. Maybe you can fact check Castro:) Might be bogus as well.

One rather exspensive Colt SAA collectable ($9,500 US dollars) was any of the 163, 5.5 inch Colts made in .38 Special and they all had lanyard rings and IIRC, British proof marks. Sent by Colt in 1940, one small contribution for the defence of England against Germany.
