Army’s XM2010 sniper rifle gets full fielding

300 win mag is the equal of 338 LM?

News to me, and I guess all the ballistic info on the net must be wrong.

Well unless drift, drop and energy are taken out of the equation.

Yes indeed...

I like the wet look you have going on:D Maybe your real calling is the #### industry:p

the 240 smk will shoot just as far in 300 win as lapua 300smk

Not really, 240 SMK has around G1 0.700 BC while 300gr SMK has around 0.760 BC. A long range everything boils down to accuracy and ballistic effeciency. Also the 0.308 240gr SMK is a quirky bullet while the 0.338 300 SMK is not.

Choosing 300 Win Mag to upgrade existing long action Remington M-24 was a great decision and the US Army opted for long action in case it need to upgrade in case of a war emergency while the US Marines use a short action M-40 which can't be upgraded much.

338 Lapua Mag is better than 300 Win Mag but moving from 7.62 NATO to 300 Win Mag is a huge and worthwile upgrade. My guess is that next generation sniper weapon system will use 338 Norma Mag not 338 Lapua Mag since it fit in a long action and is optimized for 300gr SMK.

I found the document about 300 Win Mag PIP and should be read since it contains interesting information about 7.62 long range ammo, 5.56 and 7.62 OTM ammo.

So the .338 LM loaded with a 300gr Scenar at 2800fps is the bullet to beat, but it costs a bit more.

Go figure that the only purpose built sniper rifle round on the market is currently THE round to beat.
