IMR 8208 XBR , any experience??

Tried it in my 308 Win and in my 222, both with light-to-medium for caliber bullets, 155gr. Scenars in .308, 52gr. Speers and Hornady's A-Max in the 222.
Great results for starting loads and I'm now looking at a ladder of new loads to test on the chrony.
8208XBR seems like a great powder with small cases. It flows really well in powder measures.
I would not go over 155gr. for .308 Win because there are no benefits compared with say, Varget or other powders with heavier bullets. 8208XBR increases pressures very rapidly.
PP.

I use 46.0gr of XBR 8208 in my 19" .338 Federal.
Chronied at over 2600fps with a Hornady 200gr SST = 3000ft/lbs energy
Easy to meter.
Great with weather stability.
$25 a pound from Higginson (when you buy the family pack).

It's very good stuff, extremely stable to temperature changes. Meters well and is very fine.
The CUP is higher than other powders which is why I use it with my M14.

Works very well with heavier bullet weights, like the 168 SMK HPBT.

Try it, you'll most likely switch to it after seeing how consistent the results are.

Its very accurate in my 223 for 69 and 80 grainers. There is an especially wide accuracy node with the 69 grainers. I am getting around 2990 fps with the 69s but so far only 2600 fps with the heavies. Meters better than varget but it don't flow like BLC2.

I did some testing with my 22-250 this winter..very good velocity and accuracy was about on par as other powders I tested. Im going to chrony again in the next month to check on the temperature stability which should be very good.

Burn rate in the H322/335 Benchmark range.

Using it in my new 6PPC Shilen behind some 68gr Bergers.

If I can figure the wind, it goes into one hole at 100yds.

Burn very very clean. Supposed to be temp stable. Responds to conventional load tuning very nicely.

I will eventually compare to Benchmark but having alot of fun driving them into 1 hole.

I found a good load with 40gn Ballistic Tips in my 22-250 in the first batch I tried.

No velocity data or further development to share yet but it looks like a nice powder for this cartridge.

I'ts just a new rendition of the old Thunderbird 332 surplus powder that gained fame with Br shooter Tony Bowyer, works well in my latest .204.

As stated, found a broad accuracy node with 223 and 75 gr bthp. Actually, had a hard time finding a load that didn't shoot well.

Couldn't get it to work behind 155 or 178 gr pills in 308 as well as Re 15 though.

No velocity figures, I had a guess at around 2600 for the high node based on similar barrel lengths and charge weights listed on other forums. Best nodes were at 21.7 and 22.8 gr .

rimfiremac, thats interesting. I have not gone over 21 grains with the 80s to get 2600. zero pressure signs. Hopefully when I get out to do some careful charge increases the velocity will be better.

Based on Hodgesons data your 22.8 should be up around 2800. I would think it would be closer to that than 2600.

cheers.

i am finding it too be a great powder in most of what i load , although i am getting a slightly poped primer with 70 grain blitz kings and 36 grains of 8208 in a federal case and Winchester primers any one else encounter this problem ?? other then that great powder

the diff in burn rate between h322, H335 and H4895 is within 1/2 gr to 1 gr in a 223.

They are all very similar in burn rate.

And a change in lots may change the rankings somewhat.

I just love splitting hairs :D

True, in a small cases like 223 and 222 its not a big deal. Im finding it a bit faster than 4064/4320 in the 22-50 and even in that case size there isn't a whole lot of difference.

I think I will notice the difference in a bigger cases like the 45-70 if I wanted to load 8208 for 500-550gr. cast bullets like H322 is used for. Ill have to try it.
