What do you guys do with your turkey, Just take the breast out of them and chuck the rest or do you also use up the dark meat ?
From you tube and also some hunting shows I have noticed they just take the breast out and leave the rest but I was always brought up to use as much as you can with minimal waste.
Yes I know them legs can be tough but having them boil for a nice turkey soup sure hits the spot.

we bone out the breats and use the legs ands wings for a great pot of soup hard to beat yummy and it all starts tomorow DUT?CH

I'm with stuckon308 on this one. Heat up some water in a big pot and dip the turkey in before you start to pluck and the feathers come out easy. Cheers Bac4

I find also if you pluck within the first hour after shooting your bird the feathers seem to come off easy and no need to boil and dip.

Keep it all, and like the guys said, use the leftovers for soup. Put it all, skin and everything, into a big stock pot and simer for about two hours at low heat with a bit of salt and pepper and a dozen or so cardamon seeds. There are a LOT of tendons in the legs, but once they are cooked off it is not that hard to separate the meat off the bones and tendons for a DELICIOUS soup.

heck no, with me it's the other way round- i LIKE dark meat- can't get enough of the stuff- it's the breasts that are sitting in the leftover bin right now- darned things are dry as posts - and i'll take a duck or a goose over a turkey anyday- if your legs are coming out tough, it's cause you don't know how to cook

I would sooner chuck the white meat and save the dark. Turkey legs and wings are about 5 lbs on a mature bird. Why waste it?.

I wouldnt hunt if all game was white meat, Id just eat chickens:cheers:

You are shooting some mighty big birds if you get five pounds of meat off the legs and wings! Are you SURE that is not an ostrich? :p

But anyways I am with you 100%, why waste such DELICIOUS meat!!!!!

X2. Had turkey soup today. Great

Sometimes shooting the big old tom is counter-productive if you are hunting for meat. Got a nice young 19lb jake last year and it was a great feast!
