Hello,

I am looking for all pertinent data on this round to compile into a resource people can use. Ever since HBO's "The Pacific", interest in Arisaka rifles and carbines has ramped up, and I feel it only fair that we have a piece of the pie, right here on CGN.

Firstly, any data is good. From Handloads, to original bullet pictures, to measurements and range reports. This is also a good place to post your Type 38 Arisakas and share some gun images with other collectors. "Gun Boards" has an entire forum listing devoted to Arisakas, and I think we should have our own little nook and cranny for these Milsurps. All in favour?

Cheers,

You do realise, of course, that this happens to be the TEN THOUSANDTH thread in this forum?

Neat!

One thing about Arisakas: stay away from bullets with very hard jackets. The rifling is Metford-type but only 4 grooves; if you look at it from the muzle, t looks like a rounded square. Hard jackets don't take well to this shape and have been known to fragment completely within a few yards of leaving the muzzle. I have had his problem with my own Arisaka, cured it by using the cheap Remington 140 bulk bullets. They are not as pricey as the hard-jacketed Swedish Match bullets I was using but they don't explode either. The Swedish bullets now are used in the Swedish Mausers.

Have fun!
