So this was my first time to 600m. It was a last minute thing. Once I got on target I ran out of rounds.

This was supposed to be a 5 shot group. I have idea where the other two rounds landed. The mirage was wicked at some points. There was a light tailwind. I've very encouraged though and am going to try further later in the week.

And please no one get too hot under the collar about my choice of ranges. The trail is a dead end and I drove the length of it before shooting. The surrounding area is a few hundred kilometers of bush and muskeg. No trails connect to it…perfect. From judging the ground I think I have clear space out to a full kilometer.

What are you shooting?!

Good shooting. Shooting long range is addicting.

Before you bother shooting further you should working on getting all your shots on the paper.:D

On paper ya I know...like I said I ran out of rounds...:)

Its 700 sps varmint. The stock I bought off the EE. It’s an older HS varmint stock. Everything else is factory at this point. The loads are 75 gr v-max (243.) behind 38 grs of Varget. I'll admit the loads are rough at this point...I haven't had a lot of time to shoot in the last year. A bedding and trigger job are in order I think.

I get grief about my "range" all the time in pics, even though the "tiny" hill in the background is about 150m high. I was out on Sunday, 21deg with lots of mirage for me, like shooting through a wave pool.

Looks like a little load tuning to reduce the verticals and you will be there load wise. Are you sure there was no wind pushing your shots right? I would assume that the two errant shots went off the right.

It's zeroed for 200m. I was using the mildots to hold over, I wonder if I have a bit of cant somewhere. I'm not too worried anyway...the long term project for this rifle is to rebarrel to 6mm br...I'm just working on using the factory barrel up first.

I was going to load up some more rounds tonight but I've already been into the wobbly pops so I better not...:D

were you able to still use the mildots with the scope zerod for 200 while shooting 600?

I think that the 6br could be a good choice. I ordered a Savage in 6br with a 1in8" twist. I have all my components just no rifle!

good to know, my next scope is gonna have mildots on it, the one that came with the rifle unfortunatly doesnt. good to know that you were still able to use the scope out that far without adjusting it

Sightron SIII Fixed 20x42...I have no complaints.

congrats on a nice spot and nice shooting. Put a flag on your target stand to help "see' the winds. maybe a few more sticks with flagging tape along the way.

Mirage is your friend and when you figure out what it is telling you, you'll only want to shoot when it is there. AND you will want scopes that let you see as much of it as possible (of course, the target still needs to be clear enough to hit)

Play with that rear focus, it will let you see alot of the air movements.

Bedding will be huge improvement in LR consistency. As will be a bit more load tuning.

have fun and enjoy...

Jerry

10-4...I'll get my wife on top of sewing that right away...:)

Already in the works...;)

thats a nice looking scope. my only thing is i like to have something that i can zoom in with. dont wanna have a big power scope on a 100 yard target. helps me get used to lining up the longer shots. great scope none the less :)

Based on the target backer you are using I sure hope you don't support that scum bag Lawrence Joseph.
