Took out the SKS for the first time today

Well I took her out today to pop off a few at a friend of mines farm. My first time shooting an SKS :D. She functioned flawlessly no issues what so ever.

At fifty yards with the rear sight set in the first position, or 1, she was spot on center target, but about 2 to 3 inches to the right of the bullseye. At 100 yards she was about 4 inches to the right, and about 4 to 5 inches above the bullseye. Now keep in mind we were just shooting offhand, kneeling, and sitting. Groups were roughly 4 to 5 inches and we were using MFS non-corrosive 123gr fmj.

I'm fairly happy with the way she shot today, but I would like to zero her in a little better. What are my options?

Nice!,

Do youself a favor and put some moly based lube on the trigger group and bolt carrier. It transformed the feel of mine.

Any chance you have pics taken through the sights?

Practice...:)
I was getting good groups with mine right out of the crate but when my buddy took over you could definitely tell which of us shot the most rounds. A sight adjusting tool would be handy though
 
improve your sks

[just a quick note, i too am a sks owner and was considering having a gunsmith polish up the trigger to take a few pounds of the pull.
however i have found the wonder drug for any gun.
moly-slip, i swear , it has reduced my trigger almost in half
as i use it for hunting and scope work. i found that the pull was making me not hit centre . after steam cleaning my trigger i applied moly to it and its smooth as glass.
i first heard about it on the other sites and after looking all over ontario i found a source.
try the auto parts sources , for me it was barton auto parts in hamilton.
however you can also get it at www. molyslip.com
a ontario company.
google the words moly/ sks/ and try it for yourself.

I also recently bought an sks, the trigger pull on mine is long and creeps(chinese). Ill try the moly lube as well....Thanks for the idea guys.

Congrats on buying an sks, they are a lot of fun to shoot!. :D
 
Yeah, sounds like your gun's front sight is a tiny bit off. Get the sight tool and raise the front sight and move it over a wee bit to make it shoot a bit lower and more left.
 
The moly slip product comes in a few different names, it is made of Molybdenum disulphide. Kinda like a spray on Graphite looking stuff, stains your hands like crazy but it works really good. Once it dries, it is awesome. I have been using it on Snowmobile clutches for years in hillclimb competiions as well as weekend drags, it is the Chit!
I currently use it on my 10/22 as well as my Cz, being that is is a dry operating product, dust and powder residue do not stay stuck to it. Makes your trigger feel like it has been massaged by Laytons girl!! Happy ending!
 
When you adjust your front sight you will want to move it in the opposite
direction you want the point of impact to move. For the rear sight you want to move it the way the poi is to go.
