I'm looking to get a new .22 and am considering a 10/22 because of all the aftermarket goodies and I hear they are the most reliable. I want the badass factor to be fairly high, but it MUST be accurate. Would it be more feasible to Start with a cheap plain jane 10/22 and soop it up or just get a sr22 and be ready to rock out of the box?

I bought an sr recently and am still getting accessories for it as its not "ready to rock out of the box". You will need some sort of sights/optics because there arnt any that come with it.
Myself I have ordered since the purchase of the sr: Full top rail and the other rails, ar15 flip sights, colored sight posts, and a red dot

"...Depends how deep your pockets go..." That pretty much says it all. Aftermarket 10/22 bits and pieces can get pricey. You'll never get back what you put into it should you ever need to sell it either. Better re-sale value if you 'soup it up' for accuracy than for looks.
"...want the bad ass factor to be..." Hard to get much of that in a .22. You can spend a grand on aftermarket stuff and it'll still be a .22.

This is true, however.. I put 1000's more rounds through my 22's than any other caliber I own.
I must admit to spending a good deal of $$ on upgrades for mine because it seems to me, it makes more sense to spend my cash on what I actually shoot, with ammo so costly and all. ;)

LOL .. so true. But mine is BAD ASS and I love it and use it more than any other rifle in my locker.

To the OP : The SR22 is nice, but it does take some additional dollars and work to get it top notch. If your willing to spend the money on it, then it is the way to go. If your looking for the cool factor and just going plinking for fun, get a Mossberg Tactical and spend the money you save on bullets.

My personal opinion is that the Troy T22 stock is the best deal for the money. Unfortunately they're not yet available - should be sometime later in the summer. The monolithic rail, flip up sights and fact that it will take.920 barrels sells me. What I see myself getting is this combo with a leupold scout scope and a VQ carbon fiber barrel and VQ hammer, extractor and auto bolt release. That would be a winning package.
