New Majority Goverment

After thinking about this, what if they did away with the caliber list or shortened it, but came back with "no modifications to modern chamberings"?

This is why we need to work WITH the CPC when it comes to these possible changes. Whatever we do, let's just make sure they aren't relying on a bunch of hunting club Fudds to tell them "what Canadian gun owners want". We've been down that road before....

The things they should change in the antiques section are the following:

- Set cut off date to 1899.
- Remove the "no magazine" restriction for long guns (so we aren't limited to single shots only, which is just plain stupid).
- Remove ALL cartridge restrictions, including rechambering restrictions (since antiques can't handle much pressure anyway).
- Set the status of all cap & ball black powder firearms to "antique", including reproductions.

There... now we'd have a set of antique regulations that actually make sense for a change. In a matter of speaking, it would pretty much be a copy of the American antique regulations. So far, there aren't too many mass murders and drive-bys with antiques down there (more like none at all), so I guess the sky wouldn't fall in Canada either.

No 1 thing is keep the change simple.
No 2 is have someone who knows his ass from his face to get the simple changes to the right MP.
No 3 is go over the bill before its put thru.

MPs love to screw with bills add stuff and #### around playing silly bugger so the right MP is the most important thing or just leave it all alone.

we get 15 guys all talking to 15 diffrent MPs and its a dogs breakfast.
Also its to soon to do anything i would wait till the LGR is toast frist!
thats just my 2 cts.

If we do want anything changed we should organize it on this forum, maybe in a sticky, and pick a few people to write it and only pic the best MP to present it.

That is exactly why I think we need to act now. The conservatives will be passing a huge bill within 100 days which will include the removal of the LGR. Any antique changes should go through that bill as there will be way to much other stuff to discuss......

2 cents

just my 2 cents.........

I certainly would like to see all the changes you fellows are suggesting, they make sense to me and would be definite improvements.

problem with the political process is, when you start red flagging stuff everyone without a clue starts to be an expert and there stands a good potential that you may end up worse off than you are now.

LET THEM DEAL WITH THE LGR FIRST AND THEN PROCEED WITH CAUTION.....

I agree ^ if you get the Antique Changes mixed up in the LGR bill its gona be a dogs breakfast.
Way to much intrest in the LGR everyone in Canada is gona be reading that Bill.
What we want is a nice quiet Bill down the road when no one expects it is the way to proceed.
If its worth risking at all.

The stuff you guys want (changing it to pre-1899, getting rid of the exempt caliber listing, all black powder firearms classed as antique, etc.) is not stuff you put in a big flashy bill that gets dragged out in the media so every hoplophobe in the country can scream "think of the children!!!" on the CBC. This stuff is nice, quiet Order in Council type stuff. :D

Absolutely right. Let's just get rid of the failed LGR first. Putting a bunch of eggs into one basket can be a disaster if that basket doesn't make it past the finish line. Better to break things up into one or two bite-sized baskets, if you do it at all. Extreme caution is necessary, so we don't win one thing and lose something else we already had.

Considering there seems to be a plan to RESTRICT a number on non-restricted long guns before the registry is scrapped I would not bother with any antique business right now.

Agree.^
Hopefully this majority administration will find the wherewithall to reign in the RCMP excesses of late. Any input from that org. in it's currently politicized M.O. will not likely favour our wishes.

Like Dingus said, .... a nice quiet bill or OIC down the road.

In my opinion right now top priorities are make your voice heard very loud and clear that any reclassifications or restrictions on any currently non restricted firearms will not be tolerated.

Also let them know you wish to see bill C-301 or similar implimented instead of the watereddown C-391.
C-391 was neutered in order to have a chance of passage during a minority government, there are no excuses now, we want Garry's bill or better preferably.

Everyone should be writing Harper and their Conservative MP's on these issues.

I think it would be prudent to own at least one semi auto centerfire rifle and pump or semi auto shotgun so that if they do become banned, you will be grandfathered. Does not have to be a good one or a functional gun as long as you possess it prior to the time of any change.
Meantime lets all keep our fingers crossed that the registry actually does end.

cheers mooncoon
