Im from Leduc alberta and my buddy owns a farm just south of me...he had lots of gophers but his neighbours have been trespassing and poisoning them now they are very scarce and we are having a very hard time finding landowners who will allow us to shoot gophers on their land..

Is there any one on the site who has land close to leduc with lots of gophers that would let us shoot them?

I'm gonna go out on a limb and hazard a guess that anyone on this site is gonna shoot their own gophers :p

Step 1: Drive till you see gophers
Step 2: Knock on nearest door, ask permission, be nice.
Step 3: Shoot Gophers, be courteous and clean up after yourselves to increase the likelihood of being allowed back.

If you don't look like homicidal physco, you now have permission to shoot gophers. If they do say no, return to step 1 and repeat until successful. It's really easy to get permission around here.

Are the landowners giving you a reason for denying access ? Most landowners are more than welcoming of gopher shooters, unless they have had past negative experiences.

The only time I'ver ever heard of guys not being allowed to shoot gophers on private land were guys that had piercings all over their face, their hats on sideways and they pull up in a crappy little car with the stereo thumping loud enough that the farmer could hear them from a half mile back.

99% of the guys we ask just say "no! Its my land and your not allowed on it".. And we dont wanna be pushy cuz thats not being a good hunter

Careful. Don't tell anybody to clean up after themselves. I got flamed last week for doing that.

Seriously, I'm sure you will find a place to shoot. Then one place leads to another. I spend time talking with the owner. Like me, they, too, have their story.:)

Good luck, have fun!!

The farms that will let you on will be oldtimers, those that have farmed since time began. The newer hobby farmers from the coast will prolly be tree huggers and not let you on. Just go to the local coffee shop and look for the oldtimers Bs ing, and ask them, try to blend in, don't look like a paramilitary type, or some other geek. They'll let you hunt or tell you who will!

Depending how close you are to a large population center you may have to drive a ways to get away from idiots who move from the city to enjoy "country life".

But give them a couple years losing their hard earned organic garden produce to gophers and they may give you a different answer.
