375 Ruger - will it last?

Thanks in no small part to the affordable and well thought out Ruger Alaskan rifle, the .375 Ruger has been so widely accepted, as opposed to the .376 Styer, that you don't need to be concerned about its longevity.

Exactly....

Ruger knew what people wanted, and gave it to them. Clearly other firearm manufacturers fsaw the great success of Ruger, as a number of them have now brought similar style rifles to the market, like the Sako Kodiak.:)

Thanks.

I just got my .375 in the mail. howa ambi thumbhole in the nutmeg laminate.
I ordered it in January and got it yesterday. Great grip, actions got a touch more slop than I would like but cycles smooth.

Only thing is the retailer sent me a blued, I ordered a stainless.

SO it will get sent back and I will wait, and wait, and wait, for the right rifle.

But... If anyone wants a brand new Howa in the box chambered in .375 ruger let there is a thread in the EE, or its return to sender, either way its gone and I dont benefit from it, but the retailer will. If anyone is interested, let me know by monday or its going on the mail.

I think I might post some pics this evening anyways.

I was so pumped to get out and try this thing out, maybe in another 2 or 3 months...

The 375 Ruger is a medium velocity 375 cartridge in a short/light recoiling package that can get the job down for those that do not take the time to learn how to handle heavier recoiling firearms which is most people...

So like I said earlier it will last...

:p

Better buy up lots of Brass, they will be nasty expensive when it pulls a DoDo bird on ya.V:I:

Here you go... :)

Haha!

Not your thing eh?
well once you get used to a thumbhole, especially in something with a bit of kick, its hard going back.

I'd say if you're going to a .375, should definitely go with a 'proper' action and get controlled round feed. Those thumbholes can be nasty on anything with a little recoil too, and awkard. You want the recoil to go to your shoulder, not your palm, but to each their own. Variety's the spice of life, that rifle's just a little too 'flavourful' for this compadre. Still think for a .375 Ruger in stainless, the original, the Ruger, can't be beat. Much better action than the Howa, better scope mounts for a gun that has some recoil, scope rings included, etc etc.

A 'proper' push feed action with 'proper' loads will push (and pull) a 375 just as well as a CRF. :D

X2 on the awkward and them thingys are butt-ugly to boot.

.

so, to each their own, but how many of you have tried this format of stock/grip, and say this with firsthand hand knowledge? As far as awkward goes, this is a much more natural position for your wrist than a standard rifle stock. If it works for ya thats great. This is my third thumbhole stock, I havent shot this one as its getting returned to the vendor so he can send me the right one, but if it seems ugly/awkward to you I get the feeling this opinion is coming from the armchair and not the range or bench. My old weatherby (p17) used to pretty much lift out of both hands everytime I shot it, the recoil wasnt bad but I had to correct my front hand and rear grip after every shot. I find the thumbhole to work for me much better. Although I did roll both wrists too many times skateboarding and snowboarding when I was younger so my range of motion might not be the best anymore either.

JMO.

Nope, I tried a .300 WM thumbhole, and it was a poor system for the rifle, and ungainly in the field. Just swell for a heavy bench gun but that's not my cuppa joe. Ugly comes from my eyes, not the armchair, but what's easy on the eyes varies for all of us. :) You'll notice very few truly heavy recoiling guns (which admittedly the .375 Ruger is not, though it's warm) come with thumbholes, and for a reason.

Thats because 375RUM owners get tired of the spewing that something that is just like something else is better than anything else...

:p

Hey, if you don't like something why read it, nobody is twisting your wrist.
Actually I think it is only one 375 RUM owner who is getting his knickers in a knot..... know who I mean ?? :D
I notice that all someone has to do to get your attention is start a 375 Ruger thread in any context. :p

I have to say Thank-you for a considerate and sensible opinion.
Usually its the opposite from users/owners of a different 375 chambering.. :)

Such kindness in a time of uncertainty. This I can understand.

I remember when a 7-30 Waters friend comforted me and my .284WIN as we both passed on into obsolescence, way before our time.:p
