I just picked a guide gun up off the EE, hope its as nice shooting as it looks.

I have been looking at buying one of these for a couple of years now and I am now in the market. I was just speaking to a salesman about purchasing one and he is telling me I should go back out to the "forum world" and check what people have been saying about the QA & QC of these rifles. Apparently he is telling me the QA & QC is poor for the new rifles coming on the market, like ejection issues, head spacing issues. I do not have my fingers on the pulse and I have not heard anything like that before. I thought I would just check around and see what some of you might have to say on this topic.

I just bought a used Marlin Guide Gun 45/70 in stainless. My buddy at work told me how I had to have one and I bought a used one on here on a whim. First off, I bought it blindly in that I did not know the history of the Remington takeover. I started researching these guns and found out that Remington bought out Marlin in January of 2008. Initially, some of these guns were still made by Marlin hands while others were made in a Remington factory in Russia of all places. I searched my serial number online and found out that mine was made by Marlin in late 2007, WHEW. It runs extremely smooth and is dead accurate with the iron sights, hate to think how good it could get with a scope. The biggest thing to look for when checking out a used Marlin is that there should be the initials "JM", the initials for John Marlin I believe, on the left side of the barrel where it meets the receiver. The Remington made Marlins didn't have this. These initials are hard to see but they are there if it was made by Marlin hands in their factory. I hope this helps, if in doubt, try googling, that is what I did.

Marlin 1895G

I have a yr 2000 marlin 1895g- 45-70 I love it except for the ported barrel - very loud - did i mention LOUD !! I shoot mostly 405 gr bullet barn cast and sometimes when i really want to be beat up some 535 gr cast all over H322 powder- I have XS sights and a XS sight rail which sometimes has a Leupold 2 X scout scope attached with warne quick detach rings- i really like this rifle- it is my packing around rifle- :D

I bought a Stainless GG about a year ago, stumbled upon this thread and immediately checked out my gun, there was a JM on the barrel. ;)

I slicked up the action a little but didn't like the checkering or stock finish on the wood. I stripped that plastic looking finish, sanded off the checkering and refinished with at least 10 coats of pure tung oil. It looks a thousand times better.

I added a stainless steel skinner peep sight and a leather strap. It's a great rifle. Rock solid, small and fast, always goes bang, never jams, looks like a million bucks.
