How many black rifle owners are in Canada?

I am wondering what poltical punch we can pack ... There is a huge percentage of gun owners in Canada. Most are hunters with hunting rifles and shot guns, which is why even the green party carefully states that they will not grab hunting rifles (would be political suicide).

But what about black rifle owners? If we at loeast have enough to make a voice we will get much less ####ed with.

Are there any numbers or estimates?
 
I'd say more than that, based on the number of black rifles that a business owned by a friend of mine sells. Unless the same guys are buying multiples of the same gun . . . unlikely.
 
the question I would ask is how many farmers and hunters own black rifles? or how many black gun guys own rifles and shotguns? in the end theres alot of both and in the end there should be 1 united group fighting for all firearms owners
 
According to the CFC, there are 500,525 restricted firearms and 201,904 prohibited firearms registered as of the end of 2010. Most of these will be handguns. If we guess that 5% are rifles that gives us 35,121 restricted long guns. Seems low to me, because most of the pistols shooters I know also own at least one black rifle of some description. And then there are the non-restricted versions that are harder to track.

Based on that, my WAG would be 50,000-60,000 black rifle owners in the country. WAY too small of a group for the politicians to give a #### about us.

Take in mind that most red rifles are not restricted. They make a large qty. Also the XCRs and swiss rifles are not restricted
 
What does it matter anyway? The AR10 IS a hunting rifle as far as I'm concerned and if it wasn't for certain idiots in this country who fear modern firearms technology, there would be guys out hunting with mossy oak camo Remington R25 rifles myself included!
There's no need for the "this does not concern me I'm not a (black) rifle owner" mentality. A gun is a gun and the antis hate all of em.

It depends... If every black rifle owner gave $50 to the CPC when the LGR is abolished, that would be 2.5 million dollars in donations... a lot of dough... It would definitely catch their attention.

It would, but that would require every black rifle owner get off his/her ass and do something instead of just #####ing about it.

The problem is that in the eyes of gun haters, every semi auto or black colored rifle is an Assault Rifle.

I realize that and they will never get it. About a month ago during a dinner some lib asked me to justify owning a semi auto rifle when a bolt action would do. I told him to go take the automatic trans out of is car and put in a standard, same logic.
 
Well they are assault rifles. What is wrong with that? Our Ford sedan is a get away car too .It just isn't used for that. People need to work on educating the public about firearms. They are only dangerous if misused.

Good point! Per wikipedia an asault rifle (besides some other things) has selectable fire. Per that, our blacks arent even assault rifles

I always come back with "You don't need a swimming pool in your back yard, and it is more likely to kill a kid than my guns."

I agree with the sentiment that we should not divide ourselves; a gun is a gun is a gun, and we are all in this together.

That said, I would like to know, for interest' sake, just how many black gun owners there are out there. It is hard to figure that out from Mark's stats from the registry; how many owners account for those 500k restricted weapons? Most pistol-owners own >1 pistol.

It's really hard to say.

Take in mind that black rifles are probably 55% AR and 35% SKS .. the rest being other stuff. SO you have to add the non restricted black and red rifles to the numbers
