I'm wondering if anyone can ID the cartridge that is second from the left. I figure from left to right it's .300WM, ???, .308 and .223.

Thanks

No way to tell for sure. There are probably a dozen rounds approximately that size. It's .30-06 class, for sure.

Well it gives me a start anyway. I"m going to see if I can resize the picture and measure on the screen the .300WM round case legnth (not the OAL) and use that to compare with the other one. Thanks though.

If the first is a 300win mag the second one seems to have a bigger bullet, possibly a 358 Whelen? But then the second one and the 308 seem to have the same bullet.
The first could be a 7mm mag.
Then again, after looking at my cartridges it really looks like a 30-06.

I'll play

270 winchester, the neck looks to long to be a '06 I think, pictures are always deceiving though, especially the ones of my mail order bride. The only parcel I ever had to tape back up fast and return to sender.

If you zoom in and put a ruler on the screen, the first two bullets on the left are the same size, the third is smaller. 300WM, 30-06, and 7-08 would be my guess.

Highly scientific, I know.....:p

Ok the general concensus is that it's a 30-06. The reason I am trying to find out is that three guys I go hunting with have a competition for after the hunt. We put up a 6" target at about 460 yards away and who ever hits it closest to the center wins (there is a prize). One of the guys bought a new rifle (as did I) and I sent him a similar photo with my round in it with some others. He does not know what I bought (.338 Lapua) and I do not know what he bought. But the round in question is from his new rifle so that's why i'm trying to find out. And if you currious as to what the prize is, we each put in 100 bucks (4 possibly 5 of us in total), we get a $100 day pack from Cabelas, and the remainder of the money goes into a gift card for the same store.

I know he already owns a .300WM, 270, .223 and .308, but I do not know if he owns a 30-06.

Thanks all!
