How to keep shooting interesting?

I get really bored of my savage mark II. What are some things you guys shoot or do with your rim fires to keep things interesting? I've got a few prarie dogs out here and starlings I try to shoot but thats about it.

I keep things interesting by buying new and used guns, far more fun to travel to the range with some new gear. FS
 
get a competition going with some friends... make up fun games that a few people can join in on, time them and see who is the fastest...

challenge your self for longer distances or better groupings...
 
I almost never tire of it...so I might not be the best guy to answer this. :) But....back in my airgunning days, we'd switch to smaller targets if we didn't have room...move them further out if we did, etc. We'd even blow-up red balloons for really long shots and try to get consistent estimating the holdover at various ranges. With enough time/ammo...you can get allot out of iron sights!

Now I hunt. :)
 
Set up a match to shoot at at around 50 yards (or further)

Now try to graze it enough to light the match without blowing the head off... Should keep you occupied for a while
note: i make no guarantees that this is actually possible
 
Spent shotshells make good targets at 50yds, paper is only good for checking how your grouping. Tree branches make good targets too, as long as they are small enough that your shot breaks them off.

My favorite targets when outside the range I normally go.

I drop a few on the ground, mesure 50 meters and have fun. I love bouncing those around until they are too small/crippled to aim at. Then you look a few feet beside it and chances are you will find another one.
 
Shotshells are also one of my favourite .22 plinking targets. Shooting stuff that does stuff is always fun.
 
Collect 20 or so clear .750ml Coke of Pepsi bottles.
Fill them up with water and stick them in the freezer.
When frozen, tie string around the neck of the bottles & hang them up at a range or in trees etc.
When you hit one of those suckers they EXPLODE! :eek:
When you want to clean up, just dump the left over ice on the ground and throw the bottle in a garbage bag.
Easy....
 
I like clays placed on the tree line at 100 yrds. The bright orange clay make for great reactive targets. You can also string an old steel weight up for some pinging action. I cant say I ever get bored shooting though, even if it is at paper for hours on end.
 
I like to pick up all the used 7.62x39 steel casings on the ground and shoot them! Lol! Yup I went there, I'm that guy today! Hahaha
 
start modifying/accessorizing/refinishing your guns. It never gets old.

best done on cheap norinco or older used firearms.
 
When my son was growing up & shooting his pellet rifle at paper got too easy we would hang a pop can from a sting in a tree. On a windy day it could be challenging to hit the can as it was swinging erratically. Once he got good at that then we started him on shooting the tab off the hanging moving can. He's a darn good shot now!!!
 
these kind of questions pop up once in a while. If I remeber last few concensuses were all same stuff. Reactive targets, hunting, tinkering or fixing old gear. To me though the best part has always been three position shooting. Or if you join the nearby gun club try to be an active member. I can guarantee you will meet your new friends there and the athmosphere alone will make it worthwhile.
