6.5 MS dies to load 6:5 carcano

I don't own both (I do reload for the 6.5x55), but the best way may be just to go ahead and try. I've reloaded a few different rounds using dies that were not made for that cartridge (i.e using full length 7.62x54R dies to neck size 308 win because my .308 win dies are all small base, but I can use the 7.62.54R dies to to the necks only and not touch the 308 win body at all.)
 
The two cases are quite similar in dimensions. You would not be able to FL size the Carcano case with the M-S die, since the distance from the base to the shoulder is about .015" shorter on the Carcano. However, as far as a neck sizing and seating, it may work OK. The two cases also use the same shellholder. Regards, Eagleye.
 
Nope. The Carcano has a smaller case head and case body diameter to start. It's 45 thou shorter in case length, neck length, has a slightly different taper over the case body and a slightly different shoulder angle.

The "brilliant light" has dogmatically asserted himself once more. His statement reinforces his lack of understanding of the basic principles of reloading.
No one said they were the same, only that they were quite similar.
Also that it is probably possible to assemble the ammo for the Carcano with the Mannlicher dies without getting into any trouble.
I know a guy who made acceptable ammo for his 30-06 using 30-338 dies. Of course, it neck sized only, but his ammo worked fine. Eagleye.
 
Precisely! Many experienced handloaders have used dies they were not designed for to load other cartridges, at one time or another.

I used 308 Win dies to neck size and load my first 30-06 Improved, and my 257 Roberts dies to form and load 25-303 British.
