Just picked this up yesterday. Been waiting for one to show up here in Newfoundland at a dealer or gunsmith so I could actually hold one and get a feel for it. Didn't want to order it from the mainland, and when it arrived, not fit well or something like that.

Would have prefered the black stock version, but this is the first one I've seen in Newfoundland at a dealer, and it was the only one in stock, so I snagged it up. Fits me very well, the overall size is alot smaller than I thought..But it feels not too heavy and comes up nice!! Fit and Finish seem pretty good..Question..Is the trigger guard/lever stainless as well? The finish looks identical..just curious..

I'm gonna be mounting a Leupold VX-II 3-9X40 in Weaver Grand Slam steel rings...Any recommendations on a steel base..And where could I order one from? One dealer here say they have them in stock, but they're aluminum and 2-piece??? I've only ever seen a 1 peice base for these..Plus, I ain't putting an aluminum base on this..

Just outta the box!!

Wonksy..I've had them on a few rifles..I always go with steel rings...and for me, they don't seem to fit very well with each other all the time..I just like the "added security" and extra strength of steel.

To each his own.;)

GunGuy34....Yes, it's a single shot rifle..

HunterSon..Thanks...I'll Give them a call tomorrow morning..

I'll give the other above brands a call as well..Decisions, decisions...

I picked up a one piece (aluminum) at The Outdoor Supply Store in Lewisporte. They may have steel ones.

Id be suprised if they had anything in stock. That store has gone down hill the last little while, hardly ever has any decent ammo in. I liked it better when the owner worked there all the time, or even better yet when he worked out of his garage. The service their is no where near what it use to be. Thats what happens when your the only store like it for several miles.

Just for comparison, here is mine (30/06 too) with the Leupold Quick Release base (QR)
The scope is a 3.5-10X50mm and the medium rings just fit nice.
Oh and if you haven't yet, check out Mike Bellm's site for lots of Thompson info.

Got a base for it..ended up going with an aluminum weaver base . Only reason I never got steel, was because I was able to get the weaver base shipped in over night from N.B. and I wanted to use grand slam rings, of which, I doubled up on. (seen this on another members TC and kinda liked the look). Therefore, with an aluminum base, I would save "some" weight.
