I got a Samson Evolution 11" free-float fore-end in the mail today and installed it this evening. Installation was a snap. It uses the factory barrel nut minus the delta ring. You have to use a low-profile gas block. Mine is a cut down front sight base and I did need to do a little more grinding to get it to fit. A factory low-pro block will have lots of clearance under the rail. It comes with 2 x 2" rail segments and 1 4" segment.

It's very similar to the Troy TRX Extreme, though the hole pattern is different and it has two index/anti-rotation tabs as opposed to the one the TRX has. And it's a few bucks cheaper and easier to find buy via the web than a TRX.

I'm very pleased with it so far, just have to hit the range now.

Looks very much like Troy's TRX design. Does it use a proprietary barrel nut or the standard one?

Nvrmnd....I reread the post...factory barrel nut

I like that aspect over the Troy rail. No specialized parts or wrenches.

Two screws pinch it on to the barrel nut. Its solid and will not move at all.

Not directly to the nut, there's a two-piece stainless steel "themal bushing" (Samson's name for it) that snaps onto the barrel nut. The rail slides over the bushing and then you tighten the two bolts to snug the whole works together.

That is one nice piece of gear, seems like everyone is coming out with this type of rail, just noticed that DD has a new modular float rail as well.

I wonder if it will fit the ATRS billit upper.

There's no reason it shouldn't unless the upper is wider where the anti-rotation lugs fit around it. You could always take care of that with a file.

I really like it. Didn't have a chance to shoot it tonight as it was pissing down rain and the three of us stuck with our VZs on steel. I put a Magpul RVG out near the end and coupled with the extra length over my old YHM 7" rail it makes it really easy to get a good forward grip on the gun. The lack of rails on all the sides makes it much slimmer to hold.

Yeah my buddy bought one of these and has been raving about it. Seems like a nice piece of product.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Back when I was shopping for an upper the skinniest rail I could find was the DD Lite rail, I'll seriously think about this one when I get around building my SPR upper.

Here is a samson evolution 15" on my 16" AR.

Im not experienced with other rails so I can't give a real opinion. I can say its easy to install, seems solid, and looks nice (to me). Any more info we will leave to the test of time.
