Just received that from the MD of Area 7 2011 Championships, it's sad because last year's match was fun.

--------------
Dear Canadian Resident,

It is with great regret and sadness that we must cancel your 2011 Area 7 Championship registration and return your match fee.

While the match staff does not provide legal advice, we cannot knowingly accept registrations from persons who may not legally possess a handgun within the state of Massachusetts.

We have been advised that the "competition exemption" provided by Massachusetts law is specifically limited to persons living in the US, and have confirmed this with the director of the Massachusetts Firearms Records Bureau. Enclosed is a copy of the relevant law so you can see for yourself. Please note this is a state law, and, as such, the possession of an approved BATFE Form 6 does not provide an exemption from Massachusetts limits on handgun possession.

We have also learned that the position of the state is that non-US residents are not eligible to apply for a Massachusetts firearms license, as they consider the term "alien" to apply only to persons living within the US.

We regret having to deliver this unfortunate news, and wish you the best for the shooting season.

I met a guy from Boston a couple of years ago while CCWing at the Laconia Motorcycle Rally in N.H.

This fellow has a CCW permit for Mass. but he lives within 1000' of a school. He therefore has to leave home with his pistol locked and UNLOADED until he is 1000+ feet from the school. The sheriff told him that if he was caught with a loaded and unsecured weapon within the school zone, he would be arrested and have his CCW permit revoked.

New York state is another bad one.

I imagine that anyone that travels to the US with their guns under a Form6NIA may often find themselves running afoul of "state" or "local" laws, but... Unlike whoever's running this Area 7 thing noone goes running to the authorities.
People mind their own business.
Maybe Snowboy should get a portion of his USPSA dues returned seing as he's barred from participating in some matches...

I wouldn't fault the organizers of the match for denying entry to a person who would be facing a felony charge. In my opinion, they are doing the right thing and just looking out for that person's welfare.

Any criticism should be reserved for the dictatorial bureaucrats at Massachusetts' FRB.

that state is run by Mass-holes, first I've heard of this. Take the money you would have spent and go to area 8

Yeah well, we were planning on shooting both! That sucks balls!

Anybody knows of a good match somewhere that same weekend that would be worth shooting?

Mo, I got your email and if you are really having that match, count me in for sure and probably Niki as well.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Looks like it is a go,..I have confirmation that the NB 2011 provincials will be held at the Springfield range, the weekend of sept 11th. Unsure of round count, stage count or how many days (ie: 1 day only,..or 2 days) 2 days will likely mean 14+ stages.
When I have more info I will post it.
