Hey does anyone have an ishapore enfield? sounds to me like the perfect gun, an enfield that shoots 7.62.

So, how rare are these and what are my chances of ever finding one (Not a good way to stimulate debate.) do these show up at gun shows and how much was the tag???

Why is the AIA version crap? These (not the AIA) are pretty scarce here in Canada but once in a blue moon show up on the EE.Haven't seen one anywhere else yet.Price?

I believe that the 7.62 in the No.1 Mk.3 is still being produced by the Ishapore arsenal. Not long ago I looked at a web page which had them for sale but I can't remember where. I have an Ishapore in 303 Br. and it is not only well made but it shoots better than my other, non Ishapore No.1's. Dave

Huh???

The AIA Enfields may be overpriced but crap they are not. The Ishapore
2A1 in 7.62NATO is a great rifle and is hoot to shoot. I have one of each:D They are somewhat uncommon. I supsect people who have them don't want to let go of them (like yours truly). The stock on mine was dented and dinged when I bought it (1998 I think) but with some TLC I have brought it back to life. My wife is gone with the camera but I will post some pics later. All the best.

Obviously your comment on AIA rifles shows you have no idea what you are talking about and have never handled let alone shot one.

If you understood the economics of scale you would know why AIA rifles are higher priced

After figuring out what crap really is start looking for a Ishapore 7.62, they are available just not common. If you have enough money and want a 7.62 Lee Enfield buy a DCRA conversion, most shoot exceptionally well. If you have $850.00 pm me as I have a friend with a very low number conversion for sale. Seeing as he owns a very accurate AIA rifle and he isn't insulted by your crap comment he might sell you the DCRA, or then maybe he won't.

Just curious what makes you think the AIA is crap? Everyone who has one says they are well build, uality rifles that will be able to out shoot 99% of shooters. They are all ready for a scope mount as well so no messing about. Only complaint people tend to have is the weight.

I might pick one up if I can find the cash.

I have had my hands on two Ishapore-made 2A1 rifles. The one looked like second-hand crap and shot like a dream, the really nice one was all over the place (the Damned Crack strikes again) but the guy wouldn't believe me that that little crack would affect the shooting.

Go figure.

With a good one, properly set-up and in decent nick, I see no reason that you shouldn't get better than 2 MOA out of one, provided that you can use the sights.

Nice rifle, I just can't afford one.

Don't diss the old .303 cartridge; it can do anything the .308 can do. Handload for it and ammo is cheaper than buying factory AND you can tune the load to your own rifle. I have .303s which are genuine iron-sight 1 MOA rifles.... and so do some of the other guys on here. There are guys on here who EXPECT one or two minutes out of a Lee-Enfield, and they GET IT. They HAD TO get it for the long-range matches: 2-minute bull and ranges out to 1200 yards.

Check out some of the older threads on this forum on long-range shooting with the Lee-Enfield. You just might be surprised.

Guys stay on the topic Ishy 7.62 rifles. Ignore the AIA comment. I have had both Ishy 2A and 2A1. The 2A being the more difficult to find.

You noticed that too ;) , eh ? :p

That said, I really do love my 2A1 and the 10-round M-14 stripper clips ! :D

Don't diss the old .303 cartridge; it can do anything the .308 can do.

Except, you know, "be rimless".....:nest:

Sure, the AIA isn't "crap" per-se, but the main issue is price.

I would rather have a well built and battle proven Brit or Indian rifle that has been tested and used for military service, than pay twice as much for a teak-wood wonder made in Vietnam and assembled in Australia.
