I am sorry if I started old, forgotten thing here. But you have to pardon me since I am new to all Canadian gun laws. "No AK action type" is one of the things among with others that doesn't make sense to me at all.
It banned based on looks?
Average, movie educated scared-average sheep/Canadian will not tell a difference in between AK-47/74/104 etc etc and VZ platform rifle.
Round it shots o velocity?
Same, VZ and SKS and som others are using the same round.
Political reasons?
Whole US is praising AK platform and even producing them.
So, I am totally puzzled.
I don't think it will ever happen.
The AK-47 and it's variants are the "bad guys gun" as demonstrated by modern film and popular media which to 95% of the populace is their only source of education these days.
As far as people who make the laws are concerned the AK-47 can shoot through 4 feet of solid steel and will turn anyone who holds one from a hard working accountant into a gang banging, baby killing terrorist.
It's funny how such a simplistic device has been endowed with such mythological attributes by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
I admire the AK for it's mechanical simplicity but I would not buy one even if I could.
It being banned on the above mentioned principles just makes it the primary physical manifestation of the level of ignorance in the anals of government law makers.
Then they should ban VZ as well. Show this to the average person and hear the answer.

So, you think there is no light by the end of AK tunnel even with new government after the elections?
Ummm,
probably no chance at all
I wonder why they don't just make an AK-47 for the Canadian Market and firearm laws by modifying them with a fixed 5 shot magazine and Semi Auto only ...how would that be any different than an SKS or CZ-858? since it fires the same round.
Then they should ban VZ as well. Show this to the average person and hear the answer.
