Get AK back?

Yah, they'll both be banned. :slap:

Then they should ban VZ as well. Show this to the average person and hear the answer.

dont hold your breath.

one of the main reasons why its prohib is the fear of countries dumping the old AK for new caliber AK .

fear of us getting a hold of millions of $50 AK.

same reason why the FN/FAL was prohib and yet the FN is not a full auto.

Don't forget inexpensive Chinese clones. ;)

I see what you are getting at here, that they look very similar, and have a similar (not identical, though) function.

What you overlook is that the average soccer mom could not hope to draw a picture anywhere near close of an AK if you gave them a pencil and paper.
That means they hate it based on name alone.

.

I mean, I love my AR. And I think that is a better designed, nicer looking rifle in general. I am talking about aesthetics now. But I just want AK in my collection as a memory from my past :) Trigger finger fail, I know :)

It's funny how such a simplistic device has been endowed with such mythological attributes by people who have no idea what they are talking about.
Just like throwing stars, switch blades, and nunchucks :)

lol Don't even get me started.
We're all up in arms about the nonsense firearms laws lol
Nunchucks! Has anyone here ever actualy tried to use a pair!? You need to train like 15 years to a master level to even come close to effectively using them as a weapon!
And thank god switchblades are banned! I mean imagine how many times a criminal has planned on commiting a crime with a knife but changed his mind and became a responsible citizen again because he couldn't EASILY buy a switchblade.....

Same thing with throwing stars. If your like me, you'd only use them once anyways... cause after I threw them I couldn't find them anyways :)

The political optics of "OMG dictator Harper is selling AK-47's to Rightwing gun nuts!!1!!" would be a Bridge Too Far. If he doesn't allow AK's for sale, he loses perhaps 100 votes across Canada. If he allows AK's for sale again, he loses the next election, and even Iggy could become PM. Or Layton.

Comparing VZ rifles to AK's and asking "why not?" will simply get VZ's banned too. I like my VZ and wish to keep it. I like Harper being PM, and wish to see the CPC keep power for as long as possible, lest another Liberal gain control of our country. The LAST thing we want is for the CBC to learn that VZ-58's are for sale here.

I agree Rick. Lets get the LGR gone first, remember those rifles are unpopular with the government already.

RCMP are on record as wanting the VZ58 and several other semi autos gone. There was a newspaper article on this which also featured the RCMP singling out Wolverine Supplies. The article is posted on one of the CGN threads.

I wonder why they don't just make an AK-47 for the Canadian Market and firearm laws by modifying them with a fixed 5 shot magazine and Semi Auto only ...how would that be any different than an SKS or CZ-858? since it fires the same round.

IZHMASH makes Saiga 100 in .308 Win. It's far far from AK, in fact only commonality is the bolt carrier with piston, bolt, and receiver cover which are not interchangable with other AK's or Saiga's bolt carriers, bolts and covers. The receiver is different and molded in plastic, trigger group is one detachable unit, magazine holds only 3 rounds and mag release is in front of magazine so it won't accept AK mags, button style safety...etc. Izhamsh is even willing to make them "bolt action" version - no gas port, no piston. Yet, it's classified as AK variant and prohibited... here is the picture of an evil baby eater:

Wow...they classify that as an ak Variant??? It appears just to be an ordinary Rifle...makes you wonder how they classify weapons in Canada.

The RCMP should stick to wearing their bright red costumes and practice riding horses for their circus, and stay the #### away from making laws, they are enforcement not the law makers! citizens seem to forget that.

We elected the conservatives. Not Ted Nugent.

Ain't that the truth.

I can't see any way that the AK will be available for civilian sale again. Unless the whole unrestricted/restricted/prohibited/semi-prohibited/only on Sundays with a letter from the Pope, classification systems gets totally trashed and we start out on the path to "reasonable" gun laws that aren't centred around the concept of making people jump through hoops to avoid being made criminals.

Honestly though, as someone who has owned AK's (2 of them for about 3 years in 2 different calibres) and handled and shot Vz58's I think that the Vz is a better rifle; it's lighter, much better handling and on average far more accurate. The AK might be a better weapon, but the VZ is a better rifle.
