how to convert to survival rifle?

I just bought a Henry AR-7 survival rifle, small, compact, waterproof. I wish I could convert my SKS into one of them, the barrel is too long, but would it be possible? maybe a longer stock? ideas?

If you examine the action and barrel you would see that it is almost impossible to do what you want.
Would take more money then it is worth.
 
The US army should carry SKS to use as a backup rifle. With all that AK ammo they're bound to find, etc.

i would look to somthing more like kal-tec SU style for a sks survival rifle... i would shortten the barrel and figure out how to keep iron sights i would go with fire sight front post with teck sight rear so you can get as much sight radious out of it as you can

take as much off the stock as you can maby go to a folding stock or skeletonized style

your never going to get an sks to take down like that because of the gas tube but if you can just cut as much weight and length off you could make it into a good survival style gun i might try it one day
 
as cool as it would be to have a survival rifle style SKS, it just couldnt be possible however without a/or TON(s) of money/time into RnD, the fact that the Henry can get away with it is its a .22, and chamber pressures/mixed with a blowback action = eeeasy peeeezy, however for the muuch bigger 7.62x39mm & short stroke piston system & improvising barrel attachment method inorder to keep your barrel on/not back out of threads/and to determine 100% accurate headspace everytime the barrel is cranked on, I have to say that would be a HECK of an undertaking...

.... but I have to agree that would be VERY cool to see a CenterFire version of the survival rifle done thats for sure :D

Id personally opt to see a Survival Rifle chambered in something easier to work with for an operating system, my choices are the .45acp, 9mm etc. easier for the system to work with is all...
